Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Ive been so busy getting ready for my soda kiln & Holiday Home Show…
that I almost forgot to ride my bike!!! Until today…

And it felt great to be back in the saddle again. Plus a beautiful clouded sunrise to boot!

With the wind coming off the lake, the waves were also crashing on the shore. There are
sections along the bike path where the water has a tendency to splash over the edge.
On days like today, timing is everything!

This morning was quite chilly and even breezier with a strong wind blowing in off the lake.
A cool Fall morning with a LOT less leaves – blown away overnight apparently?!
on the trees than we had yesterday.

It was dark & breezy again this morning, but a little warmer than usual.
The sky was dark & foreboding as dawn’s colors began glowing on the horizon,

And then the clouds began to brighten and turn all shades of orange & pink
as the sky brightened as the sun worked its way through the clouds.

With an appropriately “spooky” start of the day, today’s Halloween sunrise changed its
costume into a beautifully subdued pastel sky. With a hint of color peeking out as the large
cloud moved on through the morning sky.

With last night’s threat of a first frost, it was a little chillier & wetter than usual
this morning. I don’t think we got any actual frost… but it was very cold & chilling
this morning. Bone chilling. But still beautiful.

After yesterday’s clear skies, this morning was quite different.
With a lot of clouds in the sky, and a groovy orange sunrise stripe along the horizon.
Almost creepy as we get closer to Halloween?!

Then the sky started to brighten a little. But the clouds were so thick that the sun never
really had a chance to make it out. I thought there was great potential for a stunning sunrise,
but the clouds won the battle.

It’s getting cooler in Chicago… summer is definitely gone.
The sky was pretty clear. Which seems to make it feel even colder for some reason?!

This morning was a little damp. With a few overnight puddles still on the bike trail.
That’s why I added my fender onto the bike. No one wants that “squirrel tail” of dirt
splattered all up your back!

The sunrise this morning was especially vibrant & stunning. I tried to get a good ride in,
but found that I spent more time taking pictures! It seemed like the sky just kept getting
better & better. Such incredible colors splashing across the sky!

But then, just a few minutes later… it was gone! The last of the sun as we’ll see it today!
Gone, but not forgotten.

This morning it was absolutely clear. Not a single cloud in the sky.
And the winds were chillier than expected. More layers than normal.
But still worth it, as the sunrise was incredibly vibrant & clean this morning!
