Dinner last night with some of My Talented Friends…
getting together for some “non-art fair” fun & frienship. We met at Melissa’s house where she treated us to a wonderful “hot pot” meal… my first time… served out of her own handmade “donabe” hot pots… and handmade dinnerware! Plenty of great food & great fun… especially for those struggling with chopsticks!!! Lots of yummy meats, seafood, veggies, dumplings & broths… including one she made out of corn? I’d never even heard of “corn broth” before?! Yummy!!!

Enjoying the heat of the oven yesterday as I baked a batch of brownies to share with friends!
I figured a dinner party with friends can always use some homemade brownies…
and the hostess “might just” get to keep the bowl too!!!

Another chilly morning… another 10×10 Challenge! It’s warm enough in the studio this morning for another productive morning of wheelthrowing… making more than ten before 10:00am! This time embracing a new mug shape. Sure, I could’ve made “one” prototype to see how it works… but that just not my style! Here we go… full-speed ahead!!!

One last thing before they dry… I added a layer of colored flashing slip to my batch of hybrid mugs. At some point, these mugs will be soda-fired so they should change to shades of oranges & yellows during the atmospheric firing.

By the end of class last night, my THROWDOWNERs had completed all of their polka dot platters… ready for discussion critique & judging. We even had my friend & fellow teacher Nicole stop by for her choices!

You know how I love a good holiday… so last night in my LILLSTREET THROWDOWN class we celebrated NATIONAL POLKA DOT DAY!!! As part two of their challenge was to decorate their platters with polka dots!!! They had 45 minutes to finish their masterpieces! And I loved all of the creativity & different takes on polka dots. Some went big, some went small… some more colorful & some more minimal… and one that made me think of Pringles!!!

Last night in my LILLSTREET THROWDOWN class, the first challenge was to throw a simple 12-inch platter in thirty minutes. Always fun to watch how different students approach a simple piece… with so many shapes & variations. Some were “spot-on” with their dimensions, some didn’t quite make it. But this was only the first step…

I can always tell that it’s way too cold outside when I can’t see
through the windows to my front porch! Just a little chilly today…

Tonight was a “double-whammy” in my THROWDOWN class. A two-part challenge…
and two packs of OREOs!!! A perfect pairing for our pottery class!

Clear skies tonight with a beautiful crescent moon… and temperatures plummeting overnight!!!
