Early morning sunrise from the South Side. An oversized rusty “weathervane” sculpture silhouette by Mark di Suvero.

Looks even better with in color. Sure, it’s not quite sized for Chess, but it was an amazing surprise project during Chess Camp… surprise to me! A fun reptilian sculpture as a great creative diversion for one of my campers! All good.

And of course we needed a demo piece to show the kids how to build little three-dimensional “Chess-sculptures.” And what dragon wouldn’t want to be sitting on top of a brick turret while breathing fire?!

It was a fast week of making Chess Sets with my Summer Camp kids this week. Right up until the deadline, they were painting, detailing and cleaning up. And by the “closing bell,” every camper had finished their chess set. And with that ends another week of Summer Camp!

Perhaps not the best day for a sunrise morning bike ride?…
good ride, but no sunrise!!! Plenty of clouds though…

Chess Camp is moving along nicely this week. All of my kids have been working hard making their chess pieces. They’ve painted their boards… and today had an extra “push” to get all of their playing pieces constructed. For tomorrow we start painting them all with underglaze!

The yellow papers indicate which pieces they still needed to complete around lunch time!
And by the end of the day, all yellow papers were gone!

My friends Gerry & Rosene are going through a lot of construction at home after some storm damage, and today made everything a lot better when they made a lemon verbena cake with lemon frosting! Which I’m SURE was so much better with fresh lemons hand-squeezed on a handmade citrus juicer!!!

Takes a big photo to capture a big sunrise sky show!

Lots of clouds on a warm & muggy Thursday morning. After yesterday’s rains, it felt great to get back out on the bike for another sunrise bike ride along the lakefront.

With so much craziness going on in Washington DC these days…
what with Donald, Donald Jr., my “girlfriend” Kellyanne, and Vladimir…
this one made me laugh out loud when I saw it on my Instagram Feed!

But then I found out that my “girlfriend” is already married…
and this kinda made me laugh too!
