Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Also got some pretty sweet new mugs out of the kiln. I’ve been playing in the studio a little with porcelain… and LOVING the results coming out of the soda kiln. Looks like there will be more of these coming soon… as these are all going to ART IN THE BARN this weekend!!!

Here are some “better” photos of the new teapots. I say “better” because the background is just the spray booth outside the kiln room. Ha!

Anyway, two photos per teapot, one of each side. Some pretty dramatic variations thanks to the soda-firing process & colored flashing slips!

I unloaded my soda kiln earlier this week but have been too busy to post photos. Too busy making the “new Ghoul.” Until now. So here’s a quick peek inside my fired kiln as I was unloading last Monday night… with a lot of the pots that will be coming with me to ART IN THE BARN this weekend in Barrington!

Here’s the front stack. Always a little heavier soda build-up. A little too gray for my liking… personal preference… but that means the pots “inside” will be nice!

And the back stack. A lot brighter colors. Not so much gray.
And some pretty sweet new teapots if I do say so myself…

Don’t forget that this weekend is ART IN THE BARN in Barrington, Illinois. It’s been a couple of crazy weeks getting ready, and now the weekend is almost here… and I still have a kiln cooling right up to the last minute. Good thing as I have a double-booth in the Lower Barn E4-E6.

Twice the booth. Twice the shelves. TWICE THE POTS!!!

Swing by Saturday or Sunday from 10:00am-5:00pm each day
for my largest “outdoor” art fair of the season!

On the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
About two miles west of the intersection of Route 59 & Route 22.

Tonight was Week Two with my new Fall session pottery class. Some of them are “returning” Advanced Beginners… while other Beginners are just starting out. Several of them expressed interest in stamping their work for decoration – no idea where THAT might have come from?!!! So tonight we tackled stamp-making with my class. Next they’ll dry and be bisque fired before they can start using them.

The hats are made, but still need to be painted, glazed & fired
before their “Ghoulish” debut this Saturday at ART IN THE BARN…
and that’s just the half of it.

Wish I could “cast a spell” to get them done faster…
yeah, them AND the other half I’m still making too!!!

Oh yeah, and did I mention that’s it’s a “Limited Edition” of forty?!
That means I still have a LOT of painting & glazing to do!!!

Here’s a tiny treasure that came out of my soda kiln last night.
My smallest vase ever!!! C’mon, could it BE any cuter???

Saturated morning colors with beautiful reflections over Belmont Harbor.
And then incredibly clear orange skies!

This may have been one of the best sunrise bike rides ever?!!!
I apologize in advance for all of the photos… but I just couldn’t edit out any more. I’ve already deleted about a hundred photos. It was one of those mornings where I just couldn’t help myself as the sunrise continued to evolve, change and get even more beautiful as the morning minutes passed. Oh right, I’ve got to remember to pedal too…

One step closer to the Lillstreet ArtReach Art Bash fundraiser…
tonight I glazed & wadded my tumblers so they’re ready for the soda kiln!
