A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

As part of the commission project, the request was to make the stamped patterns be geometric shapes chosen by the eventual recipients of the mugs! They’re going to go to the Groom’s bridal party & friends… so they each got to choose their own “favorite” geometric shape. To make that happen, I needed to make some new stamps! Circle. Triangle. Line. Sphere. Hexagon. Circle & Line. Tetrahedron. Shamrock. Toroid… wait, what’s that???

After the bike ride, I stopped of in Schaumburg on the way home to have ice cream with my Dad… and we found this sweet sculpture in the park… SPIRIT OF THE PRAIRIE.

After yesterday’s crazy storms, it was great to get out today for a bike ride out with blue skies… and a LOT of WIND!!! The head winds for the first half were CRAZY STRONG… but the ride back was glorious! I started at Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles… and head west out into the WIND… did I mention LOTS OF WIND!!!

Looks like it might be SPIRAL SUNDAY?!
You know how much I love a good spiral… and this plate is REALLY showing off!!!

More raindrops on these pretty pink hydrangea blooms. Also loving the little tiny “yellow” flowers poking out that haven’t had a chance to turn pink yet!

All thrown… a very productive day!
Forty cylinders thrown to make forty mugs. The commission isn’t quite that large… but they will be soda-fired so I’m making a few “extras” in case some of them don’t turn out so well?! You know how soda-firing is kinda random… I can only “control” so much!

Back to making cylinders… back to making MUGS!!!
My favorite thing to make! Lucky for me, I’m working on a big commission project for a lot of specialty mugs! Here we go…

So I finally got around to trimming these new textured vases. They’ve been under plastic for quite awhile… as I did this demo with my SURFACE DECORATION class a couple weeks ago! We used some of my textured rollers from MKM Pottery Tools to press the pattern into a straight-sided cylinder… and then expanded them while throwing on the wheel. I’m intrigued by where this little texture journey might go… more to come!

Looks like Rosene has baked up a beautiful quiche to start off their weekend. Looking extra yummy in her stamped pie plate… giving it that little extra flair for the weekend!

Not quite sure what these are… but they’re beautiful in my neighbor’s garden across the street. Spiky small clusters of orange & dark green leaves. I’m hoping that they decide to “migrate” into my garden too!!!
