Carving up a few more porcelain sgraffito platters with my DiamondCore Tools! Clean lines, crisp edges and comfortable finger grips… which you may not think is important until you spend a full day carving platters!!!

Took a quick break from the sgraffito carving to replant a couple of my studio plants. They’re both doing so well, that they’ve outgrown the pots that they originally came in from my students Jen & Teresa. They were each in one of my classes where the final trading game was a handmade flowerpot with a plant to fit. I’ll need to put new plants in their pots… but if you need a flower pot for YOUR plants, you can get some of mine at my HOLIDAY HOME SHOW next weekend!!!

More carving. More sgraffito.
Another porcelain platter “racing” its way towards next weekend’s HOLIDAY HOME SHOW!!!

One of the project “challenges” for my wheelthrowing class this session was to make a placesetting with pieces that work well together design-wise. We had a lot of fun this session…. but only one of them succeeded in the challenge. Look at this beautiful set with a lot of underglazed ombre gradations & graphic design accents made with thin tape as a resist while the underglazes were being applied. Beautifully done Christine!

Another sgraffito platter carved while firing the kiln today!

It was a very productive day today while firing…
cleaning, glazing, carving with my DiamondCore Toolsoh yeah, and firing too!!!

While I’m “trapped” at the studio firing all day, I figure it’s a great chance to start some carving… with my favorite DiamondCore Tools!!! Making a last-minute batch of carved porcelain sgraffito bowls & platters. If my calendar is correct… they will make it out of the glaze kiln just in time for next week’s HOLIDAY HOME SHOW!!!

My soda kiln firing is going smoothly so far. Temperatures seem pretty close top to bottom… as the cones are falling slowly with cute little flames popping out here & there through the bricks!
