Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

With rain, snow & harsh winds in the forecast it was great to get out again today
before the storm sets in. Wish there would have been some sun… instead of more gray!
Plus, miles of snow-fencing in preparation of what’s to come.

Personally, I hope the forecast is wrong again so I can keep riding!!!

If I knew that this morning was going to be so warm,
I woulda worn a few less layers of clothing.

If I knew that the ride was going to be so enjoyable,
I coulda gotten up a little earlier and ridden a lot further.

All the time knowing that there shoulda been a sunrise out there somewhere?!
But there wasn’t.

I spent the day today at my parent’s new house helping them get ready for Christmas.
I was working on putting up some “glitter gig” decorations while my sister and niece
Taylor were making Christmas cookies with my Mom. So much fun for everyone.
Christmas cookies baking, Christmas music playing. Christmas cookie tasting.

One of my favorites cookies was this new recipe for S’Mores Cookies.
And you know how I like s’mores! So it’s a layer of chocolate graham crackers, butter,
sugar & other yummy things baked together. Then topped with marshmallows that are
“toasted” in the oven. WHen they come out toasted, puffy & hot, you sprinkle some M&M’s
all over the top. Green & red ones of course… we had to eat the other colors. Shucks!!!

And if a few M&M’s are good… even more M&M’s are even better!!!

If you’re still looking to check some people off your holiday shopping list,
I’ll be in my studio this Sunday 12/16 from noon-5:00ish
for any last minute shoppers! Be sure to stop by to pick-up some pottery for that
special someone on your list. And a little somethin’ somethin’ for yourself!

Feel free to stop by my studio on the second floor of Lillstreet Art Center.
When you come in the front door, make a quick turn and go up the stairs to Studio 205W.
4401 North Ravenswood, Studio 205 West, Chicago, Illinois 60640.

And then, just a couple blocks north of Lillstreet, you can find even more holiday gift ideas
with “The Chicago Art Girls” and their Holiday Pop-Up Show. Stop by and see jewelry by
Amy Taylor, chain maille by Melissa Banks, fine prints by Judy Zeddes, colorful ceramics
by Nancy Gardner, groovy “recycled” pieces by Melissa Kolbusz… and many more FEMALE
artists!… although I’m still a little annoyed, perplexed & amused by the overtly sexist omission
of any ART GUYS?!!! Maybe next time?…

The Chicago Art Girls Holiday Pop Up Shop – December 15th & 16th, 11:00am-5:00pm.
Helium Gallery – 4710 North Ravenswood, Chicago, Illinois 60640

This morning was dark, windy and slightly ominous.
It was one of those mornings where the dark clouds were hovering and could have
gone either way. Lucky for me, they dissipated a bit, “collected themselves” and
turned beautiful shades of oranges & pinks.

And if the world does end today as “it’s supposed to”,
it’s a good thing I hit my biking mileage goal this morning!
One more thing off the list before everything ends later today?!

Be sure to notice the decimal point… I’m not THAT crazy!!!

Today’s a special day on the calendar. We won’t see this happen again
for another thousand years. And if you’re around for that one, Congratulations!!!

Hard to believe that it’s the middle of December and the mornings are still incredible.
Not that I’m complaining or anything… but it just feels weird. Then again, Winter
doesn’t really start until a week from Friday?!
