Dear Uncle Gary-
How did you make the pumpkins? I like the faces so much. Are you coming for New Year’s Eve?
Love
Merryn
Dear Merryn…
The pumpkins were thrown on my potter’s wheel with orange terra cotta clay. Once they were kinda stiff, I pressed them to make the irregular shapes & grooves, then added the clay stem & warts. Check out my blog post on September 21st, 2008 to see the pumpkins before they got faces. Lastly, I carved the faces in with a sharp knife, opened the “lid” and painted the stem. It was fun to see my studio with over fifty jack-o-lanterns all looking back at me every day while I was making them! And every face is a little different – some silly, some scary, some happy… all of them fun!!!
Glad you like them…
