So we’re in the middle of Chess Camp, and one of my kids is “struggling” with focus, attention and generally being “able” to make the chess pieces we’ve all been working on. And then all of a sudden out of nowhere, in about 5 minutes, he cranks out this adorable lizard!!! A bit too large for a chess piece, and nothing to do with his theme, but an amazing piece of kid’s sculpture!!!

Let’s just say “the jig is up” and I’m onto his game.
He OBVIOUSLY is “able” to make things… now if he could just focus?!

Okay, so I had planned on making “maybe” ten or so…

And I ended up with another full batch of thirty mugs!!!
You know they’re my favorite thing to make. And I just can’t help myself.

Each with stamped patterns and colored flashing slip accents.
Now drying and waiting for their bisque firing… and eventual soda-firing!!!

Porcelain vases glazed, wadded, loaded, soda-fired, cooling… and unloading tonight. I can’t wait to see how they turn out before I donate them all to the ArtReach Chicago Fundraiser. I just wish more of them could have made it into the soda kiln so I could have donated even more!!!

You know how I LOVE making mugs. So many people hate making & adding handles… I kinda dig it… like I got a good “grip on it.”

You know, some mornings the sun & clouds don’t quite work together. A few too many low-lying clouds, not quite enough sun. Not quite the spectacular sunrise I’m always looking forward to. Just kind of blah… but still better than a sharp stick in the eye, right?!

Today was the first day of Chess Camp. Lots of brainstorming of themes, designing concepts, and then started handbuilding their pieces. Like these adorable little Peasant Pawns!
