More fun playing with porcelain again today!

I love trimming. I love a good foot ring.
So today was quite satisfying in both stoneware and porcelain.

So now they’re just ready & waiting for a few good handles…

After a few days of drying on a large plaster bat, my reclaimed porcelain slurry has set-up enough to start wedging. After a bit of manual labor, I now have a few more bags of porcelain. A few more bags of potential.

My reclaim bucket was full of slaked down porcelain scraps. Pulverized porcelain scraps soaked in water, and then evaporated until it was gooey, but not puddley. So I thought today would be a good day to glop it all out onto a large plaster bat to get it to start setting up. After a few days of drying, I will be able to start wedging. You gotta love free clay!!! Especially when it’s porcelain… Thanks again Emily!

Just stamping out a few last minute pieces for next weekend’s Evanston Lakeshore Fine Arts Festival. These little babies will be “fired fast” just in time for the show. Dawes Park in Evanston right along the lakefront on Saturday & Sunday!!! Booth #32.

I always tell my class that I love trimming… but this takes it to a new level. Here’s some pretty smooth faceting after a well-trimmed foot. I love this shaving “trick” and how smooth the porcelain looks… clean lines, neat edges, great facets. Nicely done.

We’ve been doing this Monthly Holiday Ornament Challenge for six months now. It’s a little tough for the ceramic folks to show finished pieces in a timely basis. What with needing to glaze and fill a kiln and all. So we frequently just show the greenware versions of the ornaments and hope that people can “visualize” the finished outcome. Well, Roberta has been busy glazing & finishing some of her ornaments from previous months. No more “guessing”…. now you can see the real thing. And how incredible they all look!!!

So I spent the evening doing a bit of stamping. I had a few cylinders that were on the wetter-side of leatherhard… perfect for stamping! So here’s a quick tour of the cylinder before & after AND the stamps that did the magic!!! Some are stoneware reclaim, and others are porcelain. Now all stamped, patterned & textured!!!

Next up?….
A bit more drying under plastic, then trimming… and then HANDLES!!!
Same mug shape. Same mug stamping. Just none of the color or flashing from a soda firing.
Porcelain with a thin white glaze in a cone 10 reduction firing.
This one is definitely “Quite White.”
