Last night was EMPTY BOWLS at Lillstreet Art Center. Huge thanks to everyone who participated… whether by donating your handmade bowls, or by coming to Lillstreet to buy them! All proceeds from the evening went to Common Pantry to help combat hunger & food insecurity in Chicago. Thanks again!
Just one week away… the GLENVIEW SUMMER ART FAIR! Excited that this year we are back at Lyon Elementary School on the corner of Lake & Waukegan in Glenview… more trees, more shade, more fun! Mark your calendars for next weekend!!!

Yesterday, towards the end of my morning Summer Camp… my kids were invited by the Lillstreet Beekeeper to see how he processes the honey directly from the hives! Yes… Lillstreet Art Center has honey bees living on the rooftop! And yes, they harvest the honey and sell it in the Lillstreet Gallery. They kids loved their informative visit… and I LOVED the little taste-test of the freshest honey EVER!!! Straight from the hive! What a great experience for all of us.
You know I loves me some fun tie-dye… but this is actually some colored splatters of glaze on the countertop before my Summer Camp kids cleaned it up!!!
One of my favorites from this week of Summer Camp…
Henry’s handbuilt fish mug… and of course, it’s a Pirate Fish with an eye-patch, right?!
Yeah… I don’t get it either… but its ADORABLE… and Henry was so excited about it!!!
I’ve always said that I kind of enjoy waxing the bottoms of pots… it’s the actual glazing part that I’m not a huge fan of… HA!!! So it wasn’t so painful yesterday during Summer Camp when I waxed all of the bottoms of the kids’ wheelthrown pots… while they were busy glazing their terra cotta handbuilt mugs! This table full is just the morning camp… and then I got to do it again for the afternoon camp kids too!!! Not too shabby for just two days of wheelthrowing, huh?
But yesterday started with the usual plan… kicking off my day the best way possible! And there was plenty of sunrise beauty to share! Great color, great reflections… and even a sliver of the moon as I started off in the morning darkness.
After the overnight rains… and the forecast for more clouds & rain this morning, I had a great plan. I was going to get up early, stay inside… focus… clean… organize… prep for next weekend’s art fair… do a LOT of projects inside… to get a bunch of stuff done today!!! And then THIS happened…
Whoops… but look… can you blame me???
Another beautiful asiatic lily that just started blooming in my garden… with amazingly saturated red colors!
And why stop with a clean floor?…
My Summer Campers also volunteered to wash their ware boards both front & back before putting them away for the day.
Now if only we could get some of the adult pottery students to follow the kid’s lead… cleaning floors, cleaning wareboards… dare to dream, right???
