Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play
Categories: lillstreet

Looks like Lillstreet is getting a small make-over! Well, at least in the Wheel C classroom…
where there “used to be” shelves there against that wall?! I know they’re working hard
to make new shelves before our classes start up again next week!

But look how nice & spacious it appears without the shelves… just sayin’…

Finished trimming & assembling another batch of ornaments…
now just need to do a little more detailing with colored flashing slips
before they get soda-fired!

With ART IN THE GARDEN in just a few days… looks like Cory is racing to the Finish Line… and making sure that all of her collaboration pieces make it into that one last kiln that comes out “just in time” for the art fair this weekend!!! I see color… and texture… and whimsy… three of my favorite things!!! Can’t wait to see the finished pieces when mine get added into the mix this Saturday & Sunday in Glenview, Illinois!!!

Quite the dramatic start this morning. Not quite sure I’ve ever seen a sunrise start like this?! And trust me, I’ve seen a LOT of sunrises!!! Then as the sun was trying to get up, the sky lightened enough to see the cloud-cover that was causing all of the drama. And then the rain started… and I pedaled home… in the rain!

The beauty of nature preserved in metal by Sandy James… “Of Nature.”
Stop by ART IN THE BARN to get a glimpse… and maybe take home a branch… or leaf…
or two! It has stopped raining, the sun is trying to come out and we’re here until 5:00pm!!!

Kicking off the holiday with a very quiet & serene ride along the lakefront. From the looks of it, a lot of people were taking the morning off as they were so many fewer people out on the lakefront trail this morning than usual. Guess they’re all sleeping in?… but missing all of this sunrise beauty!!!

It’s always encouraging to see that people are actually out there USING the pottery that I make. All too often I hear that people save it, show it off, or that it’s just “too nice to use.” Well, my pottery is meant to be used!!! And I love seeing a dish drainer full of soda-fired pots drying off! Thanks Rosene for sharing your dish drainer!!

Okay, so many of you know that to find a errant piece of glitter in my studio is NOT unusual… long story for another time... but it is strange to find a chunk of glitter this HUGE inside my bowl while trimming today!!! No idea where that honker could have come from… sure it is reclaim clay, so anything is possible I guess???… but come on, that chunk is HUGE!!!
