Doing a little trimming on the bottom of the ornament I threw as a “throwing-off-the-hump” demo for my class. So much easier with my Giffin Grip holding it tight, spinning it fast!
It’s another dark morning in the studio. Seems as though my ceiling light has STILL not been fixed by my “landlord.” He did drop off a new LED fixture… but it’s not doing me much good sitting down there near the floor.
One of my pottery students just bought his first DiamondCore Carving Tool after last week’s class demo. Looks like he’s already channeling his “Inner Carver”! I especially love the little carve-through accents!
Just a few swirls in and he was already hooked!!! I know that cutting through was a mistake… but like that he left it there and fully incorporated it into his overall design. After this we discussed “dribble glasses.” Ha!!
It’s always fun to take the front door brick off the kiln. Too finally see what happened during the soda firing. Hoping to find some new treasures inside the kiln… and from the looks of the front stack… I’m pretty confident there’s more inside!!!
Protected by a wall, it was fun to find a small patch of colorful fall flowers still hanging on.
With the cold weather moving in, this might be the last of them?!
Windy & gusty in The Windy City this morning…
with crazy cool waves crashing all around.
I swear there’s a skyline back there somewhere?!!
Soda mixture inserted. Cone ten dropping… and done.
Gas & air turned off. Damper closed. Done for the night.
All that’s left is a beautiful glow between the bricks.
Kiln firing going smoothly. Just taking a peek through the peep to see a soft cone 8
starting to bend. Gonna start adding the soda mixture soon.
