Another dark & cloudy morning. Still a bit chilly…
but at least I was better prepared with an extra layer & wool socks!
And the sun GONE behind the clouds almost as fast as it “appeared.”

Okay, so the weather has changed. September is here and it feels like it. Cold, windy and dramatically cloudy this morning. Summer “might” be over… say it isn’t so! A mere 48-degrees when I started out into the dark morning on my bike. Kinda wish I had added a few more layers?!
And scene…
Another batch of textured disks drying on my plastic grid. I like to elevate the grid on some wood strips so more air can get under the grid to dry the disks more evenly. Less warping makes me happy.
Celebrating the holiday today by “laboring” in my studio all day. Finishing off another batch of mugs for Mugshot Monday. Still trying to replenish inventory for ART IN THE BARN in Barrington in a few weeks!
Just found this little Summer Camp demo piece on the glaze cart. Looks like it was greatly under-reduced. Not even a hint of the copper red glaze it was supposed to be. No red here!!! Just another example that there’s no guarantee that this whole pottery thing is going to work how you expect it to. There’s a certain humbling nature to it all thanks to the Kiln Gods.
Since we’re in-between class sessions, I thought this morning might be a good chance to glaze my past class demo pieces. My students know all-too-well how much I “love” glazing and how my pots tend to pile up! Too many glazes. Too many options. Too many ways for the glaze to “ruin” my pots after I’ve employed some of my “control issues” to get them to this point.
It was a very productive day in the studio with a great afternoon bike break… let’s be real!!!
But, while I was working, I also got caught up and watched all of Season Two
of “The Great Pottery Throw Down” on YouTube. Great show…
although I still don’t understand what brings the judges to tears so often?!
And just to be clear… fountain maybe, chandelier possibly, toilet never!!!

So satisfying to finish another wareboard filled with trimmed & signed pots. And in case you’re wondering, my studio wareboards are actually plastic cutting boards from the flea market!
Not a cloud in the sky this morning. Just another sculpture along the lakefront bike trail. I didn’t see any signage to tell us who made this one… but we’ll say Thank You just the same!
And here’s the “non-silhouetted” & “non-sunrised” version… so close to the bike trail, and my bike!!!
There’s something so satisfying about trimming pots. I LOVE TRIMMING!!!
Especially when using my Giffin Grip which take the “fun” of re-centering your pot out of the equation.
