Busy week at summer camp this week. My campers have cranked out a lot of pots on the wheel… many of them for the first time. Two days to throw making a table full of pots! They’ve since been trimmed, stamped & detailed. For today we switched to handbuilding.
In between the sprinkles, and just before the rain came down, I managed to squeeze in a quick bike ride this morning. Just a little wet. Not much of a sunrise, just a sliver… but instead some beautiful cloudy skies.
And I’ve been glazing mine too… with some tenmoku glaze inlay in the stamped textures. These will all be going into the soda kiln… so the colors will definitely change when inside the soda kiln! Also separating them by which kind of clay they are made out of – hoping that might help when I’m loading the kiln. B-Clay towards the back, soda clay towards the front & top.
So Cory has added a thin layer of glaze on her pieces. Looks like her trays have been dipped… while she has a brilliant “trick” to keep the glaze out of the ole of her salt & pepper shakers!
Monday night we had a very fun “sweet surprise” in my soda class!
Patty found the new PB&J OREOs!!! Crispy cookie childhood flavor flashback…
and we loved the side-by-side, ying-yang PB&J filling!
Not the best OREOs, but we quickly finished the pack nonetheless… and wanted more!
Beautiful flowers at the Farmer’s Market this afternoon.
Sunflowers enjoying a little more fun in the late afternoon sun!
Looks like Cory has been adding some color to her pieces too.
The underglaze might look a little muted now, but if you know Cory and her work…
you know they’re going to be a lot more vibrant later!
Sure, I “probably” should have gone to the studio early to start my kiln firing.
Sure. But c’mon, with a sunrise like this…
how could I miss out by skipping my morning bike ride?! I just couldn’t.
It’s the Collaboration Countdown… and my partner in crime has been cranking out her pieces too!!! Stop by ART IN THE GARDEN this weekend to see the final results when Cory McCrory and I put everything together!
