Hi
I’m having problems with warping of porcelain plates. So I wonder what type of wadding you use, and how you set it up. Many thank for a great blog and webpage. Sincerely Annika
ANNIKA – My wadding is basically half EPK powder and half Alumina Hydrate… with a handful of fine grog added for stiffness. I mix it up with water and wedge it together so it becomes very clay-like. On the bottom of a large platter like this, I typically would have wads about every inch around the foot ring. I think one of the big factors is that your wadded piece sits flat on the kiln shelf. If there’s any sort of wobble, the clay will warp to “sit down” and level out to the wads. So put the wads on fresh, and sort of gently squish the platter down onto a very flat shelf. The more “warpy” factors you can eliminate, the better chance you have. As well as having a well-thrown plate in the first place. Good luck!!!
