A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Ovals done & drying. Only a few days left to make things for my upcoming soda kiln.
I need to check my calendar & work backwards from my loading date
to determine what else I can still make, trim, dry, bisque & glaze in time!

Good morning! I just came across your site and looooove your ceramic work. They are all beautiful! I am a ceramic major at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and was wondering if you buy your stamps or make them yourself? Thanks!

HEY KIM – Welcome aboard… thanks for stopping by my little pottery blog. To answer your question, I do make my own stamps. They’re just a coiled piece of clay that I carve a pattern into each end, and then bisque fire. Nothing too special. No secrets here. I teach my students how to do them every session. However, I have had a lot of questions just like yours in the past few months. So I think I need to do a photo-tutorial blog post soon to explain my stamp-making process. I think people would be surprised at just how simple it is!
