Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play
Categories: art fair

Mark your calendar… it’s only three weeks until “Art In The Barn.”
A fundraising event with 20% of the artist’s proceeds going to the
hospital auxiliary board. Plus, it’s my last outdoor art fair for the season!!!

Saturday, September 26th & Sunday, September 27th, 2009

It’s a great show out in Barrington on the original grounds of Quaker Oats.
Now the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, the barns, silos and
corn cribs are still there. And the artists are inside them!!! I will once again
be in the Lower Barn in booth E-4 and E-6… and I’d love to see you there!

So I’ve spent the summer teaching kids how to make slabs… among other things!
We’ve thrown slabs by hand stretching the clay across the tables. Turning those
slabs into plates, cylinders, platters, birdhouses, vases… and even a totem pole!
But then I thought… why not make some slab pieces in MY studio?!
So I did…

So this morning’s bike ride was pretty uneventful…
smooth ride… calming sunrise… cool breeze… same ol’ beautiful!!!

But as I was riding back home, I turned a corner to go past the soccer fields…
and the sun was in just the right place as it illuminated the morning mist
hanging over the fields… I had to stop… I had to be part of it.
What a surreal moment being engulfed in the glowing mist.
