Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

With the “success” of our marbled clay experiments, last night one of my students continued wheelthrowing with colored clays. Katie used white porcelain, as well as blue & black porcelains she made with mason stains. We’re all LOVING how these pieces have been turning out. A fun novelty to be exploring during these crazy days! They’re looking great Katie!!!

One special piece that came out of my soda kiln firing, was this vase that was a class demo from a couple weeks back. We’ve been playing with some colored clays & marbled wheelthrowing. This piece started with “white” B-clay, brown clay, and a “green” B-clay we made with mason stains. It was an experiment to see how it would turn out in the soda kiln with nothing but the soda atmosphere to “glaze” the exterior. Looks like a great success to me!!! I think we’re onto something…

While we seem to have been spared of the prediction of the Election Day Asteroid… a week later, it is good to know that there were certain precautions put in place!!! Whew… crisis averted!

Mother Nature has been working overtime this year!
The Fall colors have been amazing & long-lasting.
So let’s celebrate with another natural Texture Tuesday!

Another strange find this morning… possibly the largest leaf ever… sitting perfectly on a wire chair on my back porch?! Now I live on the third floor, so this leaf had to “travel” pretty high to land just right on the chair?! Thank you Autumn.

So during the Covid shutdown, I started my “quarantine collection” of beach glass. While the Lakefront Bike Trail was closed, I was “forced” to bike & explore some of the beaches north of me. Found some beach glass… and started a small collection. I came home with a pretty good stash this morning… including one really cool piece of cobalt blue glass!!!

The sunrise was pretty amazing… but the clouds blowing in behind it were a bit more ominous. A sign of things to come today…

Warm breezes & calico clouds. Much different from the vibrant textured oranges of yesterday… but equally STUNNING. So nice to have another unusually warm day… but it sounds like our run of 70-degree days might come to a crashing end today as the temps are supposed to drop drastically later today!!!

I love seeing my pottery shown off in other people’s homes!
Like this where Betsy is showing off her wonderful mug collection…
with the addition of her two newest mugs!

Seems like a perfect reason to celebrate with a MUGSHOT MONDAY!
And thank you Betsy for sharing your photos!

And the beautifully warm weather continues today. YAY!!! Plenty of clouds hanging out for the sunrise color to play with. Dark saturated colors at the start evolving into crazy, cool orange textured clouds! Looks like it’s going to be another AMAZING day!… especially amazing for November!!!
