Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Just a few more quick pics from my soda kiln! These pieces were the ones facing the front door… where they get blasted with a bit more soda than the rest of the kiln. Loving some of the colored flashing slip effects & the textured orange-peel surfaces!

Getting ready to ship out another batch of pottery this morning… all packed up in some “used” boxes and ready to go! Hope I don’t need to pedal them to their new homes?!

Just a cool example of when the “auto-focus” feature
doesn’t quite know what to do?!

Okay, so not so much of a sunrise as a dark clouded morning! Gloomy cloud-cover sweeping through the City, strong winds blowing in off the Lake… and crazy cool waves splashing all around!!!

And let’s just say…
my weather app said nothing about RAIN this morning?!!!
It was wrong!!!

Okay, so now that my taxes are finally done… I’ve got a second to breath… and share a picture from my soda kiln opening on Monday night. People have been asking… it turned out great. More photos to come!!!

Oh yeah, sure I could have done my taxes during the last three and a half months when we all had “nothing to do” but stay home. I could have also purchased a winning lottery ticket, bought a tropical island and disappeared off into the sunset. Well, THAT didn’t happen either.

So here I am working on my taxes all day… and pretty darn excited to be done and hitting the SEND button in the next few minutes!!! Look at me… still with a couple hours to spare!!! WHOO-HOO!!!

Big sky. Big clouds. Big photo.

Colorful calico clouds crossed the sky this morning. We went through a couple different colors as the sun came up, and eventually decided to hang out behind the clouds! Dark & moody… pastoral pastels… vibrant colors… golden hues… and then just CLOUDS!!!

Tonight my Beginning Wheelthrowing students tackled trimming, handles, mugs & stamp-making! It was a busy class… and they’ve now completed their first mugs!!! And it’s only Week #2!!! They’re off to a good start.

A few more wall pocket planters making the greenery hang higher! Specially made with some drainage holes for soil & plants… usually I make them without holes for flowers in a vase. Loving how this trio has some cascading vines working their magic. Thanks Patty for sharing your green thumb!
