A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Just a few more colored details to add… lipstick, yellowed teeth, water drops, etc. … and then I can do a quick layer of clear glaze over them all. Going into the kiln with just a tiny bit of time to spare?! You know I how love unloading hot clowns from a warm kiln just in time for an art fair!!!

I got a fun surprise “shout-out” by the folks at MKM Pottery Tools. There I was just casually scrolling through my Insta Feed… and suddenly… “Hey, that mug looks familiar?!”… and it was one of mine! Just another one of my “hybrid mugs” that are both wheelthrown & handbuilt. The top part is a textured slab made with my favorite carved handrollers from MKM Pottery Tools! So many patterns, so many options… thanks again MKM!!!

Getting some color onto the clowns as well.
Starting with a nice base-coat of white underglaze… the roar of the greasepaint…
with more colors to come…

All colored… so now I just need to get some clear glaze on them. And since they’re terra cotta, I can do a single firing to get them done in time for ART IN THE BARN this weekend!!!

Spending some time this morning painting pumpkins!

Did I forget to mention?…
sometimes bigger skyshows just need bigger photos!!!

Some mornings are more magical than others… and today did not disappoint. We had a little of everything… clear skies, calm water… then clouds moved in for a crazy-cool skyshow with AMAZING colors! And then we finished with some beautiful lighthouse-alignment & glowing golden reflections… as some times, timing IS everything!!!

Sheesh…. this sunrise seems so long ago?! Somehow the day got away from me… what with working & Ghouls & teaching… oh my! So I finally got home from class and realized I hadn’t posted my morning photos yet?! So here they are… and I hope they were worth the wait. I loved the quiet calmness this morning. And the perfectly still water giving us some spectacular reflections & glistening colors. Beautifully quiet & serene along the lake this morning… and a beautiful sky show too… STUNNING!!!
