Here’s a tiny treasure that came out of my soda kiln last night.
My smallest vase ever!!! C’mon, could it BE any cuter???

The latest batch of bottomless cylinders has stiffened up a bit while under plastic… so I did a little stamping!!! Surprise, huh?!

Next up? Slab bottom attachment… so the vases will actually hold water & flowers!!!

Just because the wheel goes round in circles…
doesn’t mean that all of your pots need to be round too!!!

I’m working on a new batch of oval vases. Thrown as bottomless cylinders… then squished into oval shapes as they stiffen up a bit. I’ll add a slab bottom to them in a day or so.

After yesterday’s huge microburst storm, I am very relieved & thrilled that we didn’t really lose any pottery. The winds were SO gusty that there were things flying around everywhere. Pots sliding off shelves, sounds of things crashing around us, tents shaking & moving… yet we stayed safe. As I was holding down the tent, my parents were quickly putting pots on the ground and saving as many as they could. This large slab vase & flowers made it through unscathed… along with all of the others!

Pretty little flowers in my backyard. Such wonderful medley of colors.
Love the gradation within each flower cluster. They smell great… very citrusy.
And look even better in a miniature stamped vase… if I do say so myself!

My kiln is still a little too warm to unload…
so I took off a couple layers of bricks to speed it up.
And look what I found front & center?… a nice new stamped vase!!!
Hope there’s more beautiful things inside later tonight!!!

No exploded bottoms from firing my vases while they were still wet.
Even more to glaze tonight. Success!!!

Tonight I loaded the last bisque kiln before this weekend’s soda kiln. Okay, sure, it may not be the best & well-loaded kiln ever… but at this point, I just need to get ’em fired so I can glaze ’em.

Kiln Layer #1 – large stamped bowls and wall pocket vases.

Kiln Layer #2 – textured tiles.

Kiln Layer #3 – stamped vases, wall pocket vases and the textured slab vases I made last night. Of course, they’re still a little more damp than I would like, so I’m going for a couple hours of pre-heating with my fingers crossed.

Tonight I made one last set of textured slab vases. My soda kiln is less than a week away, and tonight was my last chance to make new work… and HOPE that they’re dry in time to bisque fire!

Just adding some last-minute slip accents to the latest batch of stamped vases. I’ve painted the top “smooth” area with a colored flashing slip… and then a tiny touch of slip in the center, raised area of each stamp. During the soda firing, the color of the flashing slip will become more apparent.
