So the Lillstreet Member Show opened today… and I was quite happy to find a couple
“treasures” to add to my Terry Hogan Collection. She’s crazy obsessed – and we love her!
She makes these incredible porcelain pieces with intricate designs pressed & pierced
into them. Wonderful patterns with groovy fun textures! And she’s one of the artists who
is consistently under-pricing her work… so I snatched these for a steal. And “then” told her
that she needs to raise her prices. For the time & work, she could easily double her prices!

And as if they weren’t cool enough… here’s some close-ups to show them off even more!

Love their colors, their textures and the whimsical twists, turns & animated postures!!!
So much better than their over-rated counterpart the pumpkin! I already had a great
assortment from”art In The Barn.” But you can always have more, right???

Yesterday, at the end of the Apple Cider Century, we rode past a pumpkin farm with tons
of cool gourds. And I found possibly the cutest gourd ever!!! So tiny… it fit perfectly with
a few more in the pocket on the back of my biking jersey!

While packing for the art fair, I took a few minutes to take a few more pictures!
Some more soda fired textures & glazes to post & share… then show off this weekend
at “Art In The Barn” with these patterns on the sides of my textured slab vases!!!

It’s always so exciting to see what happened while the kiln was firing.
You glaze them and imagine one thing… sometimes they work, sometimes
they don’t, and sometimes… it’s just a wonderful surprise!!!

I just love the range of colors in the flashing and the crusty build-up of the soda
on the bricks on the sides of the doorway. From the dark browns, through the reddish hues,
with hints of greens & turquoise going into the crusty whites. All created “naturally” by
the flames escaping through the bricked kiln door and leaving their mark along the way.

And the somewhat “lunar” textures of the back wall bricks from the intense soda build-up
from firing after firing of the Lillstreet Art Center soda kiln.

With just one week until my next soda kiln, I am in the final stages of building new work.
Today I was focused on these new textured slab vases. They’re setting up overnight,
and tomorrow I’ll add some colored slip accents before setting them off to dry.

With just enough time before teaching my class tonight,
I added some colored slip details to these newly assembled & stamped oval vases.

I spent the afternoon in the studio trying to finish up some pieces with a few slip details.
As if the obsessive stamping weren’t enough, frequently I also go back and add a dab of
colored flashing slip into each stamp. I love how the soda firing makes these colors pop,
and adds another layer of interest into my work.

Who doesn’t need a little more obsession in their life anyway, right?!

After camp today, I stayed in my studio to do some stamping, trimming, detailing
& slip painting. Happy to report that all of the squared-off bowls are now done &
drying overnight! Mission accomplished…

Kind of ironic, as I watched the latest “Mission Impossible” movie on DVD while working.
