Freshly fired in the kiln… these little gourds are headed to ART IN THE BARN this weekend!
They started as one of the first pieces in “The Ghouls Collection.” But they were just too friggin’ cute to retire. So I’ve continued to make more pumpkins every year while the rest of the Ghouls are “retired” when they sell out. A limited edition for the Ghouls… but the pumpkins just keep sprouting up!!!

Okay, “maybe” this one might be staying at home in my own Pumpkin Patch?! Too cute.

With autumn right around the corner, and ART IN THE BARN in week or so, it was time to start replenishing the pumpkin patch. Whimsical terra cotta pumpkins just in time for ART IN THE BARN and the upcoming holidays!

Next up in the studio… the newest addition to “The Ghouls Collection”!

Getting off to a good start… throwing simple concave cylinders
that will work perfectly for this year’s ghoul!

Looks like it’s Terra Cotta Tuesday!
With ART IN THE BARN just a couple weeks away, I guess I put these off long enough…
and it’s time to start “ghouling” it up!!!

Yesterday was a bit messy as the kids tackled wheelthrowing with terra cotta. A bit messier than stoneware, but still a bunch of slimey-gooey-muddy fun!!! Even when the top of your cylinder gets pinched off by pressing too hard!!!

It was the “calm before the storm” this morning as it was terra-cotta day at a Wheelthrowing Summer Camp today. Notice how “clean” everything starts out… before the kids arrive!

Well… look who just came out of the kiln?!
It’s my “Demo Dragon” from Chess Camp. Showing the kids how to build little sculptures for their playing pieces. Like this whimsical dragon perched on a castle tower. It sure must have been hot in that kiln... he’s still breathing fire!!!

Looks even better with in color. Sure, it’s not quite sized for Chess, but it was an amazing surprise project during Chess Camp… surprise to me! A fun reptilian sculpture as a great creative diversion for one of my campers! All good.

And of course we needed a demo piece to show the kids how to build little three-dimensional “Chess-sculptures.” And what dragon wouldn’t want to be sitting on top of a brick turret while breathing fire?!

It was a fast week of making Chess Sets with my Summer Camp kids this week. Right up until the deadline, they were painting, detailing and cleaning up. And by the “closing bell,” every camper had finished their chess set. And with that ends another week of Summer Camp!
