Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

It was very quiet on the lakefront this morning. Quiet colors. Quiet water. Quiet sky.

A perfect chance for some morning reflection(s)… especially with Mother Nature’s beautiful version of a Rorschach inksplot test. So?… what do you see?! And more importantly, what do you think it means?!

After the morning reflections, the sunrise was beautiful. Still quiet.
It’s turning out to be a very good Friday… and really, isn’t every Friday a good Friday?!

After yesterday’s seemingly “turbulent” & vibrant sunrise,
the simplicity of this morning’s sunrise was somehow refreshing.
overly dramatic one day, quiet & simple the next.

With a hint of warmer temperatures coming our way…
maybe I can start peeling off some layers soon??? Let’s hope, huh?!

It was another morning with a lot of clouds in the sky and another sliver of hope glowing low on the horizon. Would the “sunrise potential” be fulfilled with a blaze of color today?

Well, yes it was!!! Everything lined up at just the right time and we were treated to an incredible blaze of color. It was so nice to see some color in the sunrise again. It seems like it’s been so gray lately. Finally, the sky was ablaze with color!

If only for a few moments before we were plunged back into gray for yet another day.

And scene.

The morning started early & dark.
With a lot of clouds on the horizon, I was hoping for a beautiful sky full of sunrise colors.
There was a ton of potential in those clouds.

As the sun was making it over the horizon, the clouds seemed to clear at just the right time. However the sun couldn’t quite make it through the layers… except for little peeks of the sun here & there.

And all too soon, the next bank of clouds was moving in. Taking over the sky. Killing the sunrise. And settling in for the rest of the day. It was another gray & gloomy Spring day on Chicago. Good thing I got out to play when I did.

Even without the colors splashing across the clouds… we still had a pretty dramatic sky show!

With basically no clouds on the horizon, I was excited to have a criss-cross of
contrails for the sun to bounce off of. As the sun came up, the contrails went from
beautiful pinks to oranges. Very striking with all that color excitement in the sky!

As I passed Addison on my way home, the totem pole
created a beautiful silhouette in front of the marshy bird sanctuary.

This morning I started out a little earlier than normal. Not surprisingly, it was also a darker.
But it did allow me some extra time to go a little further!

For the first day of Spring, it’s mighty darn cold out there!
When I got back from my ride, I heard on the radio that the temperature
was only 18-degrees!!! Let’s hear it for layers, layers, layers!!!

Doesn’t feel like Spring to me?!!!

This morning’s ride was dark & cloudy.
It had all of the makings of a beautiful sunrise with wispy clouds across the sky.
Too bad it never quite happened. It was “sunrise interrupted.”

There was a slice of orange across the horizon this morning. Shades of blue above,
and beautiful oranges below. With clouds moving along to keep the sunrise ever-changing.

And then, just moments before the sun actually appeared, there was a subtle pink hue
that started to light up the clouds!

Then it showed up… a small spot of sun on the horizon with a beautiful reflection on the water.

It was another chilly morning along the lakefront.
And it felt even chiller with the heavy clouds hanging low over the horizon…
with just a sliver of hope for the sunrise to come!

Unfortunately, the sun peeked out for just a few minutes before it disappeared again
behind the bank of clouds. Going… going… gone…
