A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

With the recent time change, my sunrise may have been an hour later… but it also seemed to last longer?! Maybe it was just the low-flying clouds… but I’m blaming the time change!

With a sudden warm-up, this morning was kind of a slushy sunrise morning. Lots of puddles. Lots of ponds. Lots of squishy mud to get the right vantage point. Good thing the bike path is pretty clear… except for the rivers of melting snow!

With a bit of a warm-up today, I felt somehow oddly “obligated” to take advantage of it and go for an early morning bike ride. It’s been far too long. Sunrise… oh, how I’ve missed you!

This morning was a bit chilly. Only eight degrees when I started.
But knowing that another “polar vortex” is headed our way tonight…
I knew today might be my best chance to get out on my bike for a quick morning sunrise ride. Enough layers and I was ready to go.

I was afraid that the gray skies weren’t going to open up in time to reveal the sunrise… but I was wrong. The beautiful sunrise was well worth the morning chill.

Beautiful a little closer. Stunning from more of a distance.

A beautiful Delaware sunrise over the Dover Downs racetrack.
Just a few meetings today and then it’s back on the plane!

It was a beautiful sky show this morning.
Very moody with dark clouds in the sky & floating icebergs breaking up in the lake.
Let the “de-Christmasing” continue… another couple days & another forty trees or so!!!

For those who can’t quite put it together in your head,
I’ve done the tough work for you… with two panoramic shots!

And how the colors changed… about ten minutes later…

This morning’s sunrise was tough to capture in one photo,
so here’s four for you to put together in your mind.

Left.

Center.

Right.

More Right…

Another fun morning with more clouds than yesterday.
The sun never quite made it out, but it was fun to watch as it continued to try.

Then, as I pedaled home, you could actually feel the temperature dropping as the next cold wave began to move in.
Sure, my sweaty jersey didn’t help any either!

With “holiday hectic” slowing down, and a sunny warm-up,
I figured it was a great chance to get out for an early morning ride.
It felt great to be back on the road… and one step closer to a normal routine.
