We’re in the middle of the week of CHESS CAMP at Lillstreet. My summer campers have made a LOT of really cool chess pieces already to fill their themes. Today we started creating their chess boards… and then took a bit of a break after lunch for them to hone their skills.

We’re only on  Day Two of our week-long Chess Camp, and the pieces are already coming along nicely. The kids are building them all out of terra cotta – and then on Friday we’ll paint them with colorful underglazes.

And what better way to make a cake look like a cake…
than to actually frost it like a cake!!! Complete with terra cotta slip “frosting” with a pastry tip!

This week is CHESS CAMP at Lillstreet… one of my favorite weeks of Camp!!!
Another week of creative fun with my summer campers!!! Each kid has a theme and now they’re building a full chess set out of terra cotta. One of them has donuts for her pawns… so we spent the afternoon adding frosting & sprinkles!!!

While other sets are a bit more traditional… starting with some trolls as pawns.

Today my summer camp kids trimmed, stamped, carved, handles and slip decorated their stoneware pots. A lot of work for Day Three of camp… even better as these same pots will be fired, cooled and glazed by the kids on Friday!!!

Busy week at summer camp this week. My campers have cranked out a lot of pots on the wheel… many of them for the first time. Two days to throw making a table full of pots! They’ve since been trimmed, stamped & detailed. For today we switched to handbuilding.
