Just doin’ a bit of stamping again… on another batch of mugs again! Handmade stamps making textures & patterns on handmade mugs!

Another bisque kiln was unloaded this morning… and it had the sixteen “not-so-basic-bowls” from last week’s class demo in it. So here they are… including the basket I added a handle to. So now it looks like I’ve got a bit of glazing to do?!!!

Ugh. My least favorite part.

So after a full day of playing hooky in the perfectly beautiful outdoors… I did feel a tiny tinge of guilt… so I stopped by the studio to do a little stamping… and then THIS happened!!!!

So I just finished stamping another large platter.
One “magical” stamp doing most of the work!!!

Starting with just one line along the perimeter…

And if one line looks good… why not make it TWO?!!!

Two is good… but let’s go all the way with FOUR!!!

And here’s the handmade clay stamp that did “all” of the work!!!

It was the first weekend of October… and a perfect chance to pull out the Halloween Decorations! My friend Chris pulled out all the stops & all the lights… decorating the front of her house in festive spooky glory. Including some huge spiders on her ceramic totem pole!!!

I think I need to go trick-or-treating at HER house this year!

So they may be food-safe & dishwasher-safe… but apparently NOT gravity-safe!!! Looks like someone up north will be missing their favorite ice cream bowl for awhile… as THIS is not going to hold much anymore. No worries. Remember… it’s JUST CLAY Kristy!!!

On a quick side note…
Look how nicely thin & even those wheelthrown walls are on that bowl!… just sayin’…

Looks like Jan is enjoying her morning with a mug of coffee & houseplants in some fine stamped & soda-fired pottery! What a nice way to start the day! Thanks for sharing your morning Jan… and one of the “special” textured slab mugs in the bottom left corner.

Reminder to self… gotta make more of these!!!

Today I did a bit of stamping & detailing the class demo bowls I made Tuesday night with my Beginning Wheel students. A bit of stamping, some groves from a wooden tool, or even some lines from chopsticks! Each one done by hand one impression after another.

So now I’ve got a lot of trimming to do after these dry a bit more to leatherhard. My goal is get them all trimmed, dried & bisqued so that I can bring them back to part of my glazing demo for my same group of Beginners!

Looks like Diane’s eucalyptus plant is enjoying its new home… she picked up the stamped terra cotta pot at ART IN THE GARDEN. And then proceeded to plant her own “garden” at home! Looks happy!

It’s always gratifying as a teacher to see your students soaking up everything you’re showing them, embracing the project and then doing the demo themselves in class. So it was fun to see Darcy “loving” every part of the stamping demo… soaking up every little trick… and then working her magic on her own platters that she threw last week in class.

But here’s a question…
Is there such a thing as teaching them TOO WELL and now their work looks like mine?… or perhaps I just found my first studio apprentice??? HA!!!

Well done Darcy – your platters look GREAT!!!

Last night in my Intermediate Wheelthrowing class, I did a demo on how I stamp my platters. We threw the platters last week in class, so it was perfect timing for a demo when they also had platters to decorate!!!
