Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Playing at the studio today… soaking up some “free” air conditioning!!!
And carving some sgraffito pieces with the help of my favorite DiamondCore Tools.
Enjoying how this stack works together… a carved bowl on top of a sgraffito plate!

Always fun to see where your pottery goes off to… like this pair of porcelain sgraffito platters that found their way into this beautiful home in Indiana! Hope you love them Marilynn!

White porcelain pieces now with black slip banding… just waiting for them to set-up
to leatherhard for trimming & some sgraffito carving through the black slipped areas.

Always feels a little weird to take black slip & paint it on pristine white porcelain…
that is “cherished” as perfectly clean WHITE clay. Now with some black splattered on it.

So excited to see that one of my pottery students made it onto the “Show-Off Shelves” at Lillstreet with her beautiful sgraffito platter! Well done Katie – it turned out GREAT!!!

Two more “treasures” from our LILLSTREET THROWDOWN challenges class.
This time it’s Patti & Jon… with Patti’s ring tulipiere, and Jon’s “Rocky Raccoon” tray
from the Beatles S&P challenge! Both amazing!

Ready for a great Saturday at the PRAIRIE VIEW ARTS INVITATIONAL
today until 4:00pm. I’ve restocked the shelves… and these are the last of the new sgraffito pieces!!! For now any way… pretty sure I’ll be making more!!!

So I just unloaded one last kiln before this weekend’s PRAIRIE VIEW ARTS INVITATIONAL… and I kinda “promised” pictures of the glazed sgraffito platters that I showed in process a couple days ago. Well, here they are… and I’m kind of surprised & enamored by the amber tenmoku ones. I’m diggin’ em! Keep in mind there aren’t that many… just multiple shots & angles of a few… so plan your shopping accordingly! If they go well this weekend I’m pretty sure there will be more in future kilns!!!

And again, here’s the show information if you want to head out to Naperville to kick-off your art fair shopping season!

Just finished glazing & loading a bunch of new pots for this weekend’s art fair invitational in Naperville… including a few of these new porcelain sgraffito platters that will be making their BIG ART FAIR DEBUT this weekend! Just a few pieces with the new sgraffito style, so come early!!! Here they are shown both bisqued & glazed… I’ll try to show a comparison photo after the glaze firing too!

I just found two bowls that I made “awhile” back, and painted the interior with colored slip. I wrapped them up in plastic… and then apparently forgot about them. And it’s been “quite’ awhile… so they were harder & drier than I would like them to be. But with my one of my extra-sharp DiamondCore Tools they still carved like a dream!
