Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

So chilly this morning that I wasn’t surprised when I saw the “first frost” on the ground along the lake. Sparkling ice crystals in the early morning light.

After my weekend in southern Indiana, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the ivy in my back courtyard has started to change colors. But not a subtle gradation of colors. Instead, a smattering of deep red leaves mixed amongst the greens. A great backdrop for one of my handmade totem poles!

Not to jinx myself any more, but here’s a sneak peek
of the new addition to the Ghouls Collection for this year. The Black Cat.

Now if I can just get them out of the kiln soon enough?!
And if everything fired okay, there will be two dozen of them at The Barn.
That’s it… and when they’re gone, they’re gone!

Okay, so there’s been some talk about Ghouls of late.
Yes, I’ve been in the studio making this year’s addition to the holiday collection.
Said “Ghoul” is currently in the kiln trying to be fired for the second time. The “plan” is to debut the new Ghoul here once I know that the kiln actually worked. Here are the characters currently in the “Ghouls Collection” from previous years. There is a VERY limited quantity of some of these left before the get “retired.”

If my kiln ever gets fired, the newest addition will debut at “Art In The Barn”
and be first come, first served. No dibs. No saves.

Today is the official last day of Summer. Fall beings this evening…

Okay, so I’m not a big fan of hoodies… but otherwise I’m in.
Of course I’d rather have Summer for just a little bit longer!

I know I was “inside” all day yesterday…
but it seems like the ivy in my backyard may have changed colors overnight?! I’m sure it was green the last time I saw it. Still a nice contrast to my backyard totem pole.

I’m not ready for Fall. Bring back Summer!!!

And to wake up to THIS is wrong on so many levels.
Don’t even know even where to begin…

With an overnight weather forecast of “anywhere from one to ten inches of snow”… I was pleased to find only a couple inches of snow this morning. I will say it was pretty cool how the snow literally “stuck” to everything!!! But the real question here is HOW can “one to ten inches” be an allowable range for any reputable weatherman? Seriously?!

No bike ride this morning… at least not for me!
My bike is dry & warm at home.
