Early morning peek into the soda kiln. Looks good so far. Took out the top rows of brick to help with cooling. Unloading this evening… with everything heading to ART IN THE BARN this weekend in Barrington.
Still glazing LOTS of pots for tomorrow’s soda kiln firing.
Just goes to show that small pots need small stamps!!!
Huge congratulations to one of my favorite teachers ever!!! Steven Young Lee and his new gallery show at the Renwick Gallery in Washington DC. Amazing pots. Fantastic artist. Incredible teacher. Thank you Steven for sharing your art, knowledge & passion with the rest of us!
One of my pottery students has been traveling in Moscow!!!
Katie was excited to see an old kickwheel there… and even more excited to see that they love OREO’s in Russia too!!! Unfortunately, they have the same flavors we have. I was hoping they might have some crazy Rooskey flavors that she could have smuggled back for us!!!
It’s the start of another week… which also means another Mugshot Monday!!!
And another week of Summer Camp. Whoo-hoo!!!
Look at the yummy summer broccoli cheese frittata made by my friend Sarah Chapman… looks pretty tasty. .. and that “fancy” green plate makes it look even TASTIER!!!
Extra special to be in the fine company of my friend & fellow-potter Delores Fortuna who made the beautiful platter at the top of the photo.
A sweet little stamped mug with a splash of green glaze!
Perfect to kick off another Mugshot Monday.
While I am not a “factory” cranking out the pottery… it is sometimes interesting to see how production pottery is made. And how every step in the process has been maximized & streamlined. Got to get me one of those plate-making machines! And the “insta-glazing” system… as we all know how much I hate glazing!!!

Spent some time tonight trimming my stamped cylinders… with my favorite trimming tool. THE GIFFIN GRIP. It’s a brilliant contraption that instantly centers things and makes my trimming life so much easier in the studio!!! Love it.
Same mug shape. Same mug stamping. Just none of the color or flashing from a soda firing.
Porcelain with a thin white glaze in a cone 10 reduction firing.
This one is definitely “Quite White.”
