Did a bit of detailing tonight with colored flashing slips on a new batch of mugs! A layer of slip around the top rim & some stamp highlights. The colored flashing slips will react to the soda-firing atmosphere in my next kiln load… hopefully creating some great colored details.

Yesterday my afternoon Summer Campers did some handbuilding… and I challenged them to make slab mugs! Cullen made this adorable set of mugs for his family… Mom, Dad & Grandma!

But the cutest part?… he also made one for his twin brother Caden. And kept it “secret” the whole time so Caden has no idea that this is being made… pretty much right under his nose!

When bad things happen on a Mugshot Monday!
Yep, a sad day… but in the end, “it’s just clay!”
Even worse as Patty just broke her husband’s favorite mug!!! Uh oh.

Two more mugs “submitted” for the BIG MUG discussion… apparently people are LOVING their larger mugs these days. I guess they can say they “only had one cup of coffee”… even though it was practically the entire coffee pot!!! Thanks Pam & Pammy for sharing your mugs with us this morning!

With some colored slips, the kids’ handbuilt mugs really came together today! They finished up detailing their handbuilt mugs, and then added a layer of colored slips to bring them to life. After they’re bisque fired, a layer of clear glaze will make then shiny & a bit more colorful. So much fun to see these projects come together with some great Summer Campers!!!

On Thursday, my morning summer campers did a handbuilding project… making handbuilt slab mugs with a theme! I challenged them to make two mugs that “go together” to tell a creative story… like day & night… like fire & water… like Harry Pottery & Voldemort!!! They may look a little “crusty” & “smudgey” right now, but I’m confident that when we add some colored slips they’ll all come together. I mean, they’re so cute already…

Well, a “few” of my new “handbuilt-wheelthrown-combo mugs” have been a little on the LARGE side! I thought they might have been a bit too big?… but you now how some people like a LOT of coffee. So this huge mug was an art fair purchase and they LOVE it. It’s practically as large as the coffee pot itself!!! I guess this way you can say that you “only” had one cup of coffee! Thanks Gordon for sharing you jumbo java mug with everyone!!!

Celebrating another MUGSHOT MONDAY with a collection of mugs that have become homes to an adorable little succulent garden. They’ve even been drilled through the bottoms for proper drainage! Such a great idea Rosene!

And now we have handles… and therefore, now we have MUGS!!! One step closer to the bisque kiln! Another step closer to getting these done in time for next weekend’s art fair in Glenview!!!

With one big “commission” batch of mugs finally done… I’m already working on the next batch! You know how much I LOVE making mugs. I’m going to try to rush these through the process a bit to get them done in time for my next art fair… The Glenview Summer Art Fair in a week and a half! Fingers crossed…
