With the weekend cold-front moving through with threats of frost up in Wisconsin, looks like Kristy has been pulling in the last of her garden’s flowers inside to enjoy. Before they freeze to death… ugh... good plan Kristy!

Yellow flowers on the beach after the morning rain.
The dahlias look amazing in my stamped & soda-fired vase… but the flowers alone are pretty STUNNING too. You know I love a good dahlia… and these dahlias from Vangies Farm are AMAZING. So many colors & textures… so huge… and so fresh coming straight from their gardens to the Farmer’s Market.
After a quick stop at the Andersonville Farmer’s Market this afternoon… I came home with some veggies & an AMAZING bouquet of dahlias from Vangie’s Farm. She custom-designs bouquets for you right on the spot… using your color choices & while blending her flowers & textures. We all know how much I LOVE dahlias… and I just happened to have the perfect oval vase to put them in!!! Shocking, right?! HA!!!
There are only two more Farmer’s Markets on the calendar…
be sure to stop by to grab some amazing flowers!!!
What a beautiful day… blue skies & the feeling of “freedom” all day on my bike! At least until you get to this sign… that makes me laugh EVERY time!!! Yes, the bike trail LITERALLY stops right there!!! Dead end. No more cement. Done. But if you know how to navigate around it, you can easily make it all the way to Waukegan in time for lunch & ice cream! Of course, after several stops along the way… especially for all of the Fall wildflowers along the north shore & Openlands Lakeshore Preserve just south of Fort Sheridan! Enjoy… I know I sure did.
A single dahlia flower in a simple ikebana vase… stamped & soda-fired. A striking floral statement on any table.
More morning dahlia magic! It’s so impressive, albeit a bit confusing… that all of these dahlias are blooming at the same time on the same plant?! I’m so glad that I planted these back in the Spring, as the pay-off is great now. And I’m totally loving how the dahlia flowers just seem to change appearance every day! This plant has been blooming great… but I have three other dahlia plants that have yet to make a single flower?! Not sure why… same garden area, same sun, same watering, etc. Fingers still crossed… but better luck next year!
Looks like my cousin Kim’s backyard is still in full bloom… including the wall pocket vases she’s installed on the side of her large tree! While they may not have drainage holes, you can still plant in them if you add a layer of pebbles in the bottom & be cautious while watering! Plus, it doesn’t hurt any that Kim has a green thumb!!!
Some of my favorite flowers in one of my favorite vases! A perfect combo for the back porch! Seasonal black-eyed susans in a stamped & soda-fired vase!
