Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

So Cheryl has been putting in more time than we expected matching up her paintings with my soda-fired frames. It’s kind of amazing how changing a frame, switching a painting, flipping the pair, etc. can make such a huge difference?! It’s like a big shell game trying to find & put together all of the perfect pairs. Glad it’s her and not me… and we thought making the art itself was the hard part?!!!

I’m sure all of the artists showing are frantically getting ready for ART IN THE BARN this weekend. I know that my friend & master painter Cheryl Holz is cranking out a lot of new work… including these minis with paint, encaustic, inclusions, etc. The best part is that these minis are destined to live in the soda-fired picture frames that I made. It’s been a fun collaboration project… coming soon to ART IN THE BARN. We’re both in The Barn… Cheryl is upstairs, and I’m downstairs!!!

So MY part of the collaboration is done! Now it’s up to Cheryl to match-up her paintings to go with my soda-fired picture frames. I can’t wait to see how she pairs them up. I love her paintings… and I hope they “play well” with my frames! We’ll each be selling collaborations in our booths at ART IN THE BARN.

Making frames for my next collaboration project… and you know I love collaborations!
My friend Cheryl Holz makes these really great “mini” paintings… so I’m making some ceramic frames for them! Our plan is that these soda-fired frames will each host a Cheryl original painting… and be available only at ART IN THE BARN in Barrington next weekend 9/22 & 9/23. Mark your calendars!

ART IN THE BARN is just over a week away in Barrington…
and it looks like my favorite painter Cheryl Holz has been busy making pieces for the show.
Sure, they’re pretty and all… but they kinda need a frame, right?!
Maybe a clay one would be cool?…. you know how I LOVE a good collaboration!

It appears that my talented metalsmith friend Amy Taylor has gotten a bit out of control
on the whole collaboration thing… IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE!!!
Here’s a glimpse of the collaboration pieces she’s been making for ART IN THE GARDEN
with woodturner Ken Staggs!

We love this part of this art fair. So much fun working with each other to make new
& unusual pieces – only available this weekend at ART IN THE GARDEN in Glenview!!!

Just sitting around snacking on the sofa & watching TV…
and “pondering” how much better this snack would be in handmade pottery dishes?!
Now if only I knew “someone” who could make a large flat bowl for the chips,
and a smaller fun bowl for the dip?

Wonder where I could ever find one of those???
Thinking… thinking… thinking…

One final kiln now cooling for this weekend’s ART IN THE GARDEN.
Hoping to find a few more “treasures” inside… as well as the last of the
collaboration pieces I’ve been working on with my buddy Cory McCrory!

Categories: art fair, collaborations

One of the things I love about Cory McCrory is her whimsical nature, her quirky style and her ability to see the bright side. Offering up a rainbow or two to brighten your day… come see them this weekend at ART IN THE GARDEN when they become part of our collaboration project!
