Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

On my way home this morning, I happened to pedal past this great bricolage mural on Thorndale near the lake. I love when “everyday” city spaces like fences & walls become works of art… hosting a wonderful message of art, creativity and diversity for the neighborhood.

After yesterday’s spectacular “surprise” sunrise, this morning was still warm but looked a lot more like Winter. Gray & gloomy before the afternoon sun. The lake may have thawed, but there are still a few “icebergs & glaciers” lingering around the edges.

And yes, sure it was warmer than a normal January day… but methinks some of these folks have taken it a bit too far?! Yes, those are indeed people going for a swim in Lake Michigan this morning. Sure, wetsuits help a bit… but one of them was sleeveless too!!!

Still a few “icebergs” floating around at Belmont Harbor…

And another large “glacier” perched on the pier of the Foster Beach lighthouse. A little “dirty” around the edges because of all the layers of sand from the beach mixed in with the ice & snow.

After a whirlwind tour of New York for both work & play, it felt good to finally get back to Chicago O’Hare. I love New York… but home is pretty great too!!!

Chicago flag created by the students at Lane Tech High School using laser cutters, 3D cutters & 3D printers. Each student in the LT Makers group designed & created their own “tile” as part of the overall “flag.” Each tile representing “something-Chicago” in a topographical form to make up this really cool Chicago flag being displayed at Navy Pier!

And while the “real show” is on the stage, the rest of the Oriental Theater interior is pretty spectacular too! Lots of over-the-top ornate decor with amazing old-school craftsmanship everywhere you look!

Another gray morning along the lake. A nice ride, but always questioning if that “shine” on the bike trail is frozen or just a puddle?! Pedal safe… and now I guess I should consider wrapping a few presents, huh???

Okay, so this morning was too gray, damp & ugly…
but yesterday’s sunrise was AMAZING!!!

It started out cloudy without much chance for a good sunrise. But all so gradually
the clouds moved out just enough to create a SPECTACULAR SKY SHOW!!!
Great colors, great clouds… and a great precursor to yesterday’s
Mud & Metal Holiday Home Show!

Okay, so it was a little colder than I expected. And maybe I didn’t have the right gloves on… and perhaps my fingers were freezing?! Regardless, the morning was quite crisp & clear as a low layer of clouds blocked the morning sun. And I was too sweaty & chilled to sit there and wait for the sun to make it over the clouds… sorry…. brrrr…

Well it’s December, and we’re still enjoying some pretty darn nice weather. Another beautiful sunrise bike ride. Clear skies, calm water, incredible reflections… including some beautiful Christmas lights sparkling in Belmont Harbor.

For the first day of December, this morning was pretty darn amazing! Warmer than it should be for this time of the year… sunny, warm and calm. A great kick-off for December!
