Clear skies again this morning. Just a few wispy clouds floating through… as the water gently rippled with shimmering reflections across the lake.
What a difference a day makes… not a cloud in the sky after yesterday’s gray cloud-fest! Still a few gentle waves, but nothing compared to the crashing waves from yesterday. A beautiful start to the day… even though I have added long-sleeves to the morning ride… it’s a bit chilly in the morning these days!
Lots of clouds & lots of waves crashing in! Kind of a chilly & windy morning, but it still felt great to get back out for a morning ride…as the last few days have been a bit rainy & wet. Welcome to Fall in Chicago… pedal on!!!
So today’s bike ride took us up to Waukegan Harbor for some time along the lake out by the lighthouse… and “allegedly” some ice cream while were there too! And then it was time to turn around & pedal home…
This sign makes me laugh EVERY time!!!
Literally where the path ends!!! Not sure we really need a sign for this… I think it’s kind of obvious?! Good place to stop… breath… set our next destination… and notice Nancy’s cool shadow on the ground!!!
I’ve always said that “the best part about biking, is STOPPING.”
Stopping to appreciate your surroundings.
Stopping to enjoy time with friends.
Or in this case… stopping to see Nancy sitting on a large egg in an even larger nest!!! Silly moments with friends… part of a perfect day on our bikes.
Stopping. Relaxing. Friends.
As we pedaled our bikes north today along the lake, we made it to Openlands Lakeshore Preserve… and found that it is STILL closed to the public!!! And with a sign that you don’t get to see very often… EXPLOSIVES??? Really?!
Apparently the found some live ammunition there left over from the war when Fort Sheridan was an actual military fort. Who knew?! Kinda crazy that it’s still closed for several months now?!… better safe than sorry I guess?!
So I took a much needed mental & physical break from my “ghouls production” in the studio this morning! And went for a quick 70-mile ride up to Waukegan “for ice cream” and back with my friend Nancy. We had a beautiful ride, and were struck with the beauty around the Skokie Lagoons… good thing I’m not allergic to goldenrod!!! But never fear… I’ll be back at it in the studio later this evening!!!
Not a cloud in the sky! Just clear skies & clear sailing along the lakefront this morning. Chilly though with a wind from the west… kinda wish I had long sleeves for the first few miles?!
