Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

So Cheryl has been putting in more time than we expected matching up her paintings with my soda-fired frames. It’s kind of amazing how changing a frame, switching a painting, flipping the pair, etc. can make such a huge difference?! It’s like a big shell game trying to find & put together all of the perfect pairs. Glad it’s her and not me… and we thought making the art itself was the hard part?!!!

This weekend is the Ravenswood Art Walk.
A great chance to wander up & down Ravenswood and peek into all of the studios, workspaces & galleries hidden along the way.

And look who made it into the brochure!!! ME!!!
Looks like I was painting last year’s Zombies during the Art Walk when they took that photo?!

Not quite sure about the groovy pattern they overlayed on top of the photo…
makes it look like I have some sort of geometric skin condition???

ART IN THE BARN is just over a week away in Barrington…
and it looks like my favorite painter Cheryl Holz has been busy making pieces for the show.
Sure, they’re pretty and all… but they kinda need a frame, right?!
Maybe a clay one would be cool?…. you know how I LOVE a good collaboration!

So by now you’ve probably figured it out…
artist collaborations are all the rage at ART IN THE GARDEN.
And I’ve been working on a fun combo with my buddy Cory McCrory.

We’re focusing on chip & dip bowls. I did the “chips” and she did the “dips.”
You get to mix & match your own perfect set while you’re at ART IN THE GARDEN!

Use it to serve chips & dips, veggies & dips, whatever…
or separate them and have two great bowls when you’re not doing snacks.
There’s a limited quantity… so stop by early if you want to match up your own perfect set!

Here’s just a few om my CHIP bowls… waiting to be matched up with one of Cory’s bowls!

It appears that my talented metalsmith friend Amy Taylor has gotten a bit out of control
on the whole collaboration thing… IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE!!!
Here’s a glimpse of the collaboration pieces she’s been making for ART IN THE GARDEN
with woodturner Ken Staggs!

We love this part of this art fair. So much fun working with each other to make new
& unusual pieces – only available this weekend at ART IN THE GARDEN in Glenview!!!

The collaboration projects for ART IN THE GARDEN are coming along quite nicely. Here’s a sneak peek at a few of the beautiful silver necklace pendants that Amy Taylor has made using some of my textured clay pieces as cabachons. I just hope she doesn’t confuse a ridged chip with one of my pieces as she’s snacking & working at the same time?!!! Either direction would be a bad mistake!

So my friend & co-collaborator Cory McCrory has busy been doing her part…
maybe the storms passing through have influenced her work?
It will all come together next weekend at ART IN THE GARDEN.
Looks like maybe she’ll be a big dip, and I’ll be a chip off the old block?!!

With ART IN THE GARDEN just a week away,
the collaborations are quickly coming together.

My fellow collaborator Cory McCrory has been assembling textured slabs for her part of our project. Looks like things are coming together nicely!
