Last night I hung out with some friends at Lillstreet Art Center before making it upstairs to my studio. Such a fun distraction to have the classrooms downstairs with a lot of great fun & art going on down there. Last night my friend Terry Hogan was once again working on her incredibly intricate pierced porcelain creations. Up until recently, they’ve been on the smaller size. But lately she’s been expanding (literally) and going for some larger, sculptural pieces. Still with that crazy perfection & attention-to-detail.
And how does she do it one might ask? Well, with a crazy amount of creativity & patience!!! But also a pretty cool pile of tools for poking, piercing, pricking and pointilism-ing!
WOW! I love Terry’s work. Now I have TWO reasons to get my butt to Chicago!

CECILY… Thanks, but this post is about my friend Terry and her incredible work!
KATHIE – A lot of these pierced porcelain pieces go unglazed. Terry leaves many of them plain, or with just a simple liner glaze. Sometimes she rubs an oxide or underglaze into the impressions just to make them “pop.” It would kind of be a nightmare to see her plunge one of these into a bucket of glaze! Yikes!!!
I just would like to see the piece finished… the whole piece
The beauty of Terry’s work takes my breath away. Does she have a website where we can see it? Is any of her work for sale? Simply exquisite!
JEANIE – Unfortunately, Terry does not have a website to show off her work. She should. Instead, I do my best to promote her work for her. She’s not one to toot her own horn. This is just amazingly beautiful, but would it be possible if you showed the whole finished project and perhaps do a how to video? That would be even more amazing!
FATIMA – I wish I could. I’m sure Terry’s wonderful piece has been sold already. As for a how-to video, I’m pretty sure she’s never made one. I will definitely suggest it… but she’s pretty old school. She just loves the quiet meditation of making the pinch pots and then poking them incessantly. Her work is incredible… but sadly, she has no website or online presence for you to see more. Sorry.
I am totally mesmerized by this piece as it exhibits a rhythm with the movement of the add on pieces. Holes have always brought great attention to any piece as a decorated form. I simply love her work.
My art teacher (Mrs Kitchingham) asked us to pick an artist on which to create a research page.
