Fresh from the soda kiln in time for another MUGSHOT MONDAY!
These hybrid mugs got some great colors & flashing marks. Most of these hybrid mugs are slated for a special commission, with the rest going to “4×4 : FOUR MAKERS” this coming weekend.

If you can’t make it to the 4×4 show… I’m sure I’ll be making a few more batches of my hybrid mugs for upcoming shows & art fairs!!!

Another beautiful day… clear skies with a warm start & a forecast of upper sixties for later this afternoon. It’s hard to think that just a couple days ago we had SNOW!!! And that by looking at the calendar… we probably will again!!! But for now… maybe just today & tomorrow… SPRING IS HERE!!! Okay, just let me have this one…

You know how much I love a good theme… so here I am making some “little boxes” for our upcoming “4×4 : FOUR MAKERS” show. Hopefully the other three artists are doing the same?

Rolling textures & making patterns with one of my MKM Pottery Tools hand rollers… working with slabs to make some fun pieces for next weekend’s “4×4 : FOUR MAKERS” pop-up exhibition & sale!

It will be another fun showcase with me & three of “My Talented Friends.” Come see works by metalsmith Sarah Chapman, metal sculptor Darlys Ewoldt & fused glass by Robin Kittleson… plus my pottery obviously!!! We’re be doing a pop-up exhibition & sale at Space 900 Gallery on Dempster in Evanston. We’ll be open Friday night 2:00pm-8:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-8:00pm & Sunday 12:00pm-4:00pm. We’d love to see you… so come by to see some beautiful art, chat with the artists & maybe even go home with something that makes you smile!

Things are coming together… quite literally…
and looking fairly dramatic with the early morning sun streaming in!

So I’ve been making some rings…
making something new & special for next weekend’s “4×4 : FOUR MAKERS” show in Evanston.
Hoping these all come together… slow going one ring at a time!!!

Here’s another great example of soda-firing… BEFORE & AFTER.

This collection is mostly Kelsey’s handbulit pots. Some classical forms with some contemporary surfaces. It’s cool to see them side-by-side to see & how they all transformed during the firing.

After unloading the kiln, my 3-DAY SODA WORKSHOPpers also got to finish it out with the “glamorous side” of soda-firing. They had the “privilege” of scraping all the shelves, adding a new layer of kiln wash, cleaning the fire boxes, sweeping & mopping the floor! I mean… they want to “experience” soda-firing… and now they’ve done ALL of the steps in the process! They all had a great time… and are already asking if they can do another firing with the same group!!! WELL DONE TEAM!!!

Happy faces all around when the door was off of the soda kiln for my 3-DAY SODA-FIRNG WORKSHOPpers!!! They were so excited Wednesday night as they unbricked, unloaded & admired their new soda-fired pottery! Becky was giddy & Kelsey was documenting with photos!
