Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play
Categories: creativity, holiday

So here’s my very favorite installation at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s LIGHTSCAPE holiday display. It’s towards the end of the holiday “journey”… but well worth the wait! It’s a huge “structure” of a Christmas tree wrapped with hundreds of wires that catch the light as the colors change & move. STUNNING!!! And oh, but wait there’s more… the wires also emanate from the surrounding deciduous trees streaming to the Christmas Tree! Wires tethered everywhere. Catching light. Glistening in holiday colors!!!

But here’s the crazy part… the very next day, I was at a site-visit for a new project, and I met a couple of new designers, one of them a lighting designer. I mentioned that we had just gone to LIGHTSCAPE the night before and that I loved it… and that this “wire-wrapped tree” was my favorite. Imagine my surprise when the lighting designer guy I just met says… “That one is mine.” Yep, strange coincidence to meet the designer of my favorite tree the very next day!!! Thank you for sharing your talents Chris Wren!!!
