Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play
Categories: classes, glaze

One of my Intermediate students has been “struggling” with getting the right glaze results for her intricate pots… lots of carving, stamping, painting, illustrations, etc. The classrooms glazes have been “covering” all of her hard work.. so she’s been testing some commercial cone 6 glazes when I fire my cone six studio work. Looks like Christine is getting some great results. Can’t wait to see where this glaze journey progresses!

Cuteness in the reclaim buckets…
so many fun things popping up around Lillstreet these days!

Looks like Gerry is kickin’ back on his deck, relaxing & enjoying another MUGSHOT MONDAY… with a fresh green shamrock mug!

Starting off the week with another beautiful sunrise. Not a lot of clouds this morning, just a brisk breeze & plenty of open road… err, lakefront bike trails!!!

Well, it’s almost here!
The kick-off of my Summer Art Fair Schedule…
this coming weekend AND the next!

This weekend I’ll be in Schaumburg after a two-year pandemic hiatus, and the following weekend in Hinsdale. Same booth spaces as usual… so easy to find me! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again! Can’t wait to show off some of my new pottery!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!

Best thing for fresh rhubarb?… a homemade RHUBARB PIE!!! I spent a little too much time at the studio this afternoon… so I didn’t have time for a fancy pie crust tonight. So this is just a “functional” homemade rhubarb pie… hoping that the handmade pie dish & pie plates makes up for the “plain” old pie?!

Fresh from the garden… not mine of course, but of wonderful friends who love to grow things! And share things… like this beautiful bowl of colors & textures! Oh, how I love rhubarb season!!!

Spent a little time in the studio this afternoon “finishing up” some of my recent class demo pieces. This was a request from my Intermediate Class to make a large two-part stacked piece. Kelly requested a planter… but I kinda think this landed somewhere “between” planter & vase?! I stuck with planter… and added drainage holes and threw a water trip tray today to go with it.

One of my students was out today for a neighborhood “up-cycle event”… aka garage sale?… and she ran across this gem! One of my stamped & soda-fired vases from a couple years ago! Not only did Darcy get it for FREE… she also had a nice chat with the previous owner.

My favorite part… “it was a little faded on one side.” HA!!!…
or maybe just SODA-FIRED?!!!
You know… pottery doesn’t really “fade” all that much!!!
