In my Thursday morning class, one of my students has been working with a “brick” texture mat and trying to get more of a weathered & worn surface. Rikke had been painting different slips on them after pressing her texture in. Today I demo’d how to make a slip “crackle” using sodium silicate and then stretching it. We pulled the slab, then added some bricks and I think she was quite pleased with the new “weathered & worn” surfaces. Now I can’t wait to see where this takes her & how the finished pieces turn out!!!
Once the handles had stiffened up a bit, it was time to give them a little curve and start attaching them onto these fun split-rimmed “basket” bowls! I’m thinking these might just be glazed, finished & perfect for that Easter Bunny who loves pottery!!!
After teaching class this morning, I pulled some long handles and let them hang off the edge of my wedging table to stiffen up. For mugs I like to flip them to set the curve of the mug handles… but for these “basket” handles I wanted them a bit thicker, longer & straighter!
While all of that snow was falling outside the past couple days…
and the temperature falling too… look what decided to bring a little color & sunshine into my condo! So excited that this little guy decided to bloom again for me!
Looks like Kristy & Matt had a special Valentine’s Day last weekend… celebrating with sweet treats and some sweet pottery! Thanks for sharing your special day with all of us!
Looks like someone found the perfect napkin holder… employing one of my stamped & soda-fired oval vases with the perfect fit!
Celebrating another TEXTURE TUESDAY with a large stamped platter. Started as a plain class demo piece last week… but one single stamp pressed in over, and over, and over again made quite an impact. I’m digging the “starburst” effect that radiates out from the center!
Following up with a little post-shovel “warm-me-up†cup of hot chocolate… complete with the requisite JUMBO MARSHMALLOW!!!
See?… I knew I liked shoveling for some strange reason!!!
Inside the massive icicle formation!
Wonderful textures… ever growing as the snow melts & refreezes throughout the day… hopefully without falling off & hurting someone!
Also enjoying some of the massive icicles we have forming on our back porches. A bit on the dangerous side when they get this huge… but why are they so beautiful?! Like a frozen urban waterfall.
