A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

When the fruit trees start making fruit, you’ve got to grab them when you can before the birds get ’em… and hopefully there’s plenty to make PIE!!! My cousin Kim grabbed a full bounty of cherries from her yard and made this beautiful cherry pie! It looks AMAZING… and I’m sure it tasted even better!!! Thanks for sharing your photos Kimberley Sue… but next time, let’s share the pie too!!!

Looks like Sally’s new green bowl arrived safe & sound…
glad she likes it.

I’m also glad that she’s staying safe and dutifully wearing her face mask.
Although I kinda think a fabric one would be easier to breath through?!!! Ha!!!

We’re all enjoying the natural light coming through the skylights in the new & improved Glaze Room at Lillstreet Art Center. So much larger now so there’s plenty of room to keep your distance… and get some glazing done at the same time! Plus, now we have a sign-up for a glazing time-slot system to keep the traffic down, time to clean & sanitize… and to keep everyone safe & socially-distant!

Another groovy floral display going on at Lillstreet! This wonderful trumpet vine is growing up the side of the building right on the corner. I do love how the flower clusters seem to dangle & float away from the brick wall.

They’re saying it’s gonna be a HOT one today!!!
All the more reason to get out early this morning before the heat & humidity set in. I mean… it was already humid out there and I was a sweaty mess. But still the best way to start my day!!!

Looks like “someone” was paying attention during my online Stamp-Making Workshop a few weeks back… as these seem to be the result. Some wonderful stamps & patterns… I can’t wait to see what you make with them Darcy!!!

Sweet little jar sitting in the kitchen. Love the combination of cinnamon sticks & cutlery! Nice combo… thanks for sharing your photos! Keep sending them in. I love seeing my pottery actually being used in people’s homes!!!

Love the incredibly saturated color, the textures and that wonderfully spikey center on these classic purple clematis vines!

We started without clouds in the sky…
but instead we had the Moon & Venus floating quietly over the horizon.

As I pedaled south to Navy Pier, one large cloud moved in as I tried to navigate the closed sections of the lakefront bike trail. Yes, huge sections from Fullerton to Navy Pier are totally closed due to erosion & broken pavement… forcing me to the other side of Lake Shore Drive… and sure, the high water levels covering the bike trail don’t help either!!!

So for the most part my soda kiln was beautiful… no glops from the ceiling, no kiln wash flakes in the bowls, no unhappy accidents. Except… for this one ornament that decided to make a “swan dive” all the way down into the firebox sometime during the firing. Then after a sitting right in the flame for so long, the ornaments is now overly-blasted with soda and the hanging ring has practically dissolved into nothing!!!

Here it is… and a normal ornament that didn’t jump for comparison. They both started out with the same hanging ring. Amazing what a too much flame & too much soda can do to the clay?!!! Kinda makes it look like a shadow…
