Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

The forecast was rain overnight followed by clouds all day. Forever optimistic… I got up early and decided to go for my morning bike ride even though it was VERY dark & cloudy still. So glad I did… as we had a few moments of STUNNING!!! Incredible colors sweeping across the sky before the sun went behind the clouds for the day!

Looks like I might need to pedal a little faster?… dark clouds moving in!

A striking sunflower from the Farmer’s Market in a large green stamped stoneware bowl. Most people would think of serving food in a large bowl… but Sally went for a beautiful floating effect in her new bowl.

Thanks for sharing your idea Sally… I LOVE IT!!!

Celebrating a little TEXTURE TUESDAY with an orange two-fer!
Sticking with my favorite color… one soda-fired & one draped in my living room windows!

Still enamored by these vibrant red lilies just down the street. Every morning when I pass them on my bike I think to myself… “I need to plant some of those beauties for next year.” And then I forget… until the next morning!

Not a cloud in the sky… and even better, the heat & humidity seems to have broken! Such a beautiful morning. Blue skies. Orange glow. Nice breeze… and not nearly as sweaty!!!

Celebrating another MUGSHOT MONDAY with this stamped & soda-fired mug… which now resides in Minneapolis with my good friend Sarah!!! She was enamored by the amount of soda flashing effects on this one… so the mug made its way up north to celebrate her birthday!

So remember that stray ornament that jumped off the shelf and into the firebox during my last soda firing?! Well, I had just taken it a set it on a table in my studio. Kinda forgot about it. But since then, the crusty residue has disintegrated and fallen off into a powder. And now we can see more of the ornament… and just how much of it was “eaten-away” by the excessive soda mixture & flames hitting it in the fire box. The walls are now super-thin… and actually see-through in a couple places!!!
