With just a sliver of a crescent moon, this morning was pretty calm, quiet & cloud-free…. just a few early on, followed by clear skies for the rest of the day!

We’re only on  Day Two of our week-long Chess Camp, and the pieces are already coming along nicely. The kids are building them all out of terra cotta – and then on Friday we’ll paint them with colorful underglazes.

And what better way to make a cake look like a cake…
than to actually frost it like a cake!!! Complete with terra cotta slip “frosting” with a pastry tip!

Lots of stamped textures. Lots of tiles!!!

Low flying clouds delayed the sunrise… blocking it a bit…
but creating some cool sunrise effects along the way!

Just finishing some colored slip accents on the last batch of mugs. These ones will be soda-fired so the slip colors should become more vibrant & reactive to the soda atmosphere. Couple more to go, and then calling it a night… as that sunrise bike ride comes around pretty darn early in the morning… followed by another full day of Summer Camp!

After camp today, I finished up my latest batch of mugs. A few finishing touches and now they can be set out to dry. This batch is B-Clay and will be glazed mugs. I still have another batch to finish up made with Soda Clay… so I need to add some colored flashing soda slip accents to those and then they too can be set out to dry.

This week is CHESS CAMP at Lillstreet… one of my favorite weeks of Camp!!!
Another week of creative fun with my summer campers!!! Each kid has a theme and now they’re building a full chess set out of terra cotta. One of them has donuts for her pawns… so we spent the afternoon adding frosting & sprinkles!!!

While other sets are a bit more traditional… starting with some trolls as pawns.

One of the girls just sat down a drew this wonderful creature… now I just can’t wait to see what else Rebecca makes this week during camp!!!
