Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my studio this weekend during the Ravenswood ArtWalk. I met a lot of fun folks… and got a LOT of work done. Which was great as ART IN THE BARN is this weekend!!! Towards the end of Sunday, I did skip out a bit early to see some of the other studios and to enjoy the visual feast at Architectural Artifacts just down the street.

Clouded, shrouded, and a bit breezy for the ride home.

Big sky. Big clouds. Big skyline… and a great parking spot right by the Lake!

With only six days until Fall, it finally feels like Summer. Go figure. With a short “heatwave” going on, it feels great to finally have warm mornings again. Beautiful sunrise, fewer clothing layers and more sweat!!! All good. Welcome back Summer!!!

Some more festive pumpkins to replenish the Halloween stock.
Under the low-fire clear glaze (which looks green now) there are the real pumpkin colors!

With ART IN THE BARN getting closer & closer…
and so many “Ghouls” still to make… I decided to squeeze in one more kiln firing just because I can. So I threw together some quick replenishment pieces that will get a quick cone six glaze firing early next week… just under the wire. Sure, it’s not my best packed kiln. But it does have a lot of mugs & bowls for ART IN THE BARN. As well as a little holiday surprise on the top layer!

Bisque Kiln Layer #1my favorite thing to make... mugs, mugs and more mugs!!!

Bisque Kiln Layer #2 – some stacked bowls and small trays for salt & pepper shaker sets.

Bisque Kiln Layer #3 – more bowls, more trays, and some ikebana vase tops.

Bisque Kiln Layer #4 – which in this case turned out to be a low-fire GLAZE kiln layer!!!
The green glaze is actually a low-fire clear glaze. After firing, these little pumpkins will show their true colors… warts and all.

With autumn right around the corner, and ART IN THE BARN in week or so, it was time to start replenishing the pumpkin patch. Whimsical terra cotta pumpkins just in time for ART IN THE BARN and the upcoming holidays!

Next up in the studio… the newest addition to “The Ghouls Collection”!

Is it just me, or is it too early for pumpkins to be on sale at the grocery stores already?
It’s still Summer, right? And look, some of these aren’t even ripe yet!!! Ha!!!

Clear skies. Calm water. Looks like the clouds of yesterday have moved out and we’re now looking at a beautiful forecast for the weekend to come… which also means a LOT more biking to come too!!!

A quick peek into the pottery cupboard as dinnerware pieces are changing from summer colors to seasonal earthtones. So fun to see my pottery in people’s homes… in this case, my first ever “art fair friends” who have quite the collection both old & new! Thanks for sharing Gerry & Rosene. See you soon!
