Gary Jackson: Fire When Ready Pottery
A Chicago potter’s somewhat slanted view of clay & play

Another clear day. Not a lot of clouds. Just a lot of orange in the sky.
OrangER than normal… if that’s even possible?!!!

I love when people actually use my pots in their everyday lives.
And when people send me photos of my pots in action.
Please send me more photos of my pottery in your world so I can share them here!

Some days your whole outlook just depends on what you decide to focus on.

Vibrant colors. Saturated hues.
Deep contrasts of lights & darks.

Clouds lighting up and the sun piercing through the morning sky.

Love the silhouettes of the water intake stations off in the distance.
Plus a pretty swift breeze blowing north… it was a fun ride home!!!

We’re only a week away from HALLOWEEN!!!
Time to show off your Ghouls!!!

Here’s a quick glimpse of the “full” collection. Whether you have one or two characters, or all of them, I’d love to see your Ghoul Collection on display! Shoot me a quick e-mail with a photo of your ghastly group at gary@firewhenreadypottery.com

PUMPKIN – open edition                                SKULL – retired

FRANKENSTEIN : retired                               VAMPIRE : retired

MUMMY : retired                                              BLACK CAT : only a couple left

And this year’s addition to the collection as “revealed” at Art In The Barn in Barrington.
We started with forty witches & hats. Mix & match… choose a witch, choose a hat. And when these are gone, they will be retired as well. Pumpkins, Witches and a few Black Cats are still available only in my studio!

So here we have then again, hanging out as the complete Ghouls Collection.
Just in time to celebrate the Halloween Season!!!

So where do we go from here?
Any suggestions for next year’s new Ghoul???

I simply LOVE my Shimpo Banding Wheel. I use it almost every day and it stills spins perfectly. Love it. I can’t imagine working in my studio without it. But I do long for the days when it was still that nice Shimpo shade of blue.

Categories: mugs, stamped

Last night I did a LOT of stamping. I have a lot of cylinders working on their way to becoming mugs. I’m working to fill ny next soda kiln. So these are made with soda clay that will get some great flashing & color in the soda atmosphere of the kiln. The stamping is done now… so it’s trimming & handles coming soon!

Plus a couple B-Clay “extras” made from the bottom of the bag…
