Today I trimmed all of the bowls from my class demo last Tuesday night. The fifteen bowls have all been decorated, altered, stamped and detailed… the last thing to be done before bisque firing was to trim a good foot on each of them. Done.

How are you making the “not round” double rimmed georgeous bowls??? They are truly stunning.

VERNA – I love making the split-rimmed bowls. I think it really makes the rim more expressive – especially when you alter the shape of the bowl. To make the split rim, I throw the bowl and try to leave a little bit thicker rim at the top. Once the bowl is shaped & compressed, I “divide” the rim into two parts by pressing the pointed end of my wooden knife into the center of the rim. Press carefully while the wheel is spinning and the rim will separate into two rims. Then you can alter the shape of the bowl… and voila’, you’ve got a “not round” double rimmed bowl!!!
