Hi Gary,
I was wondering how you make your test tiles. Are they cut from slabs or thrown, then cut? Also, is the square piece they’re sitting on, part of the test tile? I can’t see where you mark them, maybe on the back?
I need to make some, and yours look more substantial and sturdier than most.
Thanks,
Penny
HEY PENNY –
These test tiles are thrown slabs, stamped, grooved and then cut into rectangles… curved, stood up… and then scored & slipped onto the bottom squares so they’re very stable. If you look close at the square base, there are also grooves around all four sides just in case there are some extra runny glazes. Don’t want anything to run right off onto the kiln shelves. Also, they are stamped with codes on the square base inside the concave back side of the test tile. Good luck with your glaze testing!!!
