The new Spring Session will start in a week and a half at Lillstreet Art Center.
I will once again be teaching a Beginning & Advanced Beginning Wheelthrowing Class.
It’s basically for anyone who wants to play in the mud… whether you’ve never touched
clay, or want to refine some of your basic skills. The 10-week class will take you through
all steps in the production process. Every Tuesday night from 7:00pm-10:00pm.
The Spring class session will begin on Tuesday, March 27th.

Registration has already begin… and my class is more than half full already!
Don’t wait too long. My class is usually full with a waiting list… so don’t miss out!

Stop by or call Lillstreet Art Center to register for your class.

Trying to keep busy… replenishing the inventory on some of the “basics”!

The early morning sky was a beautiful shade of blue… with that one big blue cloud!
I was hoping for the sky to transform into some beautiful sunrise colors. Instead, it all
kind of fizzled out into patches of pastel colors.

Well, tonight was the last night of our Winter session at Lillstreet Art Center.
The students are busily finishing up their class projects… and sharing some potluck
fun during the class. So while we were all hanging out, I noticed Nadine busily
carving away on a few of her pieces. She’s been in my class for a few sessions and
has recently become quite prolific. She’s a full-time lawyer looking for some fun
creative escape.  I think she would love to  make a change… and with her latest
carving & decorating adventures, I think she might be well on her way!

I especially love these sculpted pieces. Instead of carving patterns & textures, Nadine
decided to add some sculptural pieces on these cups. The frog mug is wonderful with
an amphibian on each side. I’m so excited to see these beautifully carved frogs on her pots…
instead of the
mold-pressed, detail-free, same-old, same-old frogs that have been on some
other pots around
Lillstreet for far too many years! At some point, I would have expected
those mold-pressed frogs
to evolve into something better. Apparently not. But I am
SO EXCITED that Nadine is on a much better track already with her wonderful frogs!

I LOVE how that one frog is hanging on to the top rim of the mug!
And I can’t wait to see how she decides to glaze them! Hop to it Nadine!!!

I hear occasionally that some of you would like a beautiful sunrise now & again without
my bike blocking the view! Go figure. It’s my morning. It’s my sunrise. Get used to it.
But because I’m nice… and in a good mood… here’s some sunrise “glamor shots” from
this morning without my bike. A nice change after my sunrise with the “spooky” trees!

This morning was very quiet & very serene. With deep shades of blue on the horizon
during this beautiful & unseasonably warm morning. And then I found a grove of
“spooky” trees just south of Belmont Harbor. Yes, I must have ridden past them
literally THOUSANDS of times… and just noticed them today! Finally.

Then, a little further down the path I stopped for a serene moment by myself.
Quiet. Relaxing. Reflective. All too soon it was time to turn around and head back home…

I returned to “the scene of the crime” and back to the spooky trees as the sun continued
to rise. A little brighter, but the trees still seem to be a little sad. Weeping as though
the Winter got the better of them. Although I know it was a surprisingly mild Winter?!

I still don’t know what kind of tree this is?!
Maybe I’ll be able to figure it out when the leaves start to come out in the next few weeks.

More clay. More throwing. More pots. More fun in the studio.
Stamped and waiting to be trimmed! I love when you can throw ’em and dry ’em
enough to stamp them all in one day!

After a surprisingly warm Winter, it appears as though Spring has come early
as well. With some surprisingly warm days… and flowers popping up already!
And it’s just the first weeks of March… crazy!!!

With little beauties popping up in my front yard garden! Much better than snow…

By now you should know that I love making ovals… so here’s the latest batch!
First as simple bottomless cylinders… then shaped, bottomed & decorated.

I had a potential client meet me in my studio this morning
and we discussed a very intriguing proposition. By now you probably know
that I’m not a huge fan of commissions… but for this I’ll make an exception!
I hope it comes together… and then I can share details!
